It seems like it has been forever since ‘Russian Doll’ Season 1 premiered. Fans are inquisitive to know updates about the upcoming instalment and have been wondering why Netflix has been silent about season 2.

Having been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards four times, Lyonne has extended her expertise to direction and production in her latest series ‘Russian Doll’.
- COVID-19 has delayed the production process
- There is no script or release date to discuss
- Possibility of season 3 is up for questioning
The Netflix original series is definitely too good to miss. But with no update on when exactly will the upcoming, highly anticipated show release, fans are beginning to get a little impatient. Is there something that the Netflix team is hiding from the audience or is this just another act to keep fans counting days till the official release? Read on to know more.
COVID-19 has delayed the production process
It will be no news to the audience and fans of the show that ‘Russian Doll’ is among the many other TV shows, web series, and films that had to temporarily halt production midway because of the deadly coronavirus. As cases continued to rise every day, staying at home was the best solution for protecting the team from getting infected.
But, how deeply has it affected the production process? Besides the obvious, the cast and crew have not been able to put their best skills to use and have been quarantining at their respective homes. According to online sources, filming for the second instalment was scheduled to begin on March 30th, 2020.
Unfortunately, with coronavirus cases rising by the minute and given the fact that the series’ second season was meant to be filmed in New York, filming was postponed to May 2020. However, there has been no update since then. So, what else is keeping Netflix quite from sharing some fresh news?
There is no script or release date to discuss
After the successful hit of the first instalment, it didn’t take too long for the showrunners to announce the upcoming, eagerly awaited season 2. But that is all the information that has been shared since then.
One of the many reasons why Netflix has not been able to share any updates on ‘Russian Doll’ is simply because there isn’t much to share. Why, you ask? According to online sources, the cast and crew were certainly up to some sort of production before the Wuhan-emerged coronavirus hit the world like a brick wall.
However, the same sources also suggest that the script for the second instalment is very much still under process. As expressed in an interview with “Deadline” in 2019, Lyonne revealed that the show’s second season hadn’t been written.
“Amy and I were hanging out the other day, and its early days. We’re not in the room yet in any official way, but I will say that it does not become a show about dating in New York or anything like that—and no shade on those shows, but that’s not this show”, she expressed.
Possibility of season 3 is up for questioning
After the announcement of season 2 was made, ‘Russian Doll’ co-creator Leslye Headland disclosed that the series is sketched out for three seasons.
“We pitched Netflix three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea … and they said: ‘Great, the more of that the better”, Headland shared.
However, since season 2 is off schedule with production and premiering, fans are beginning to doubt they will ever get to watch the third instalment any time soon. Netflix better step-up their “update” game, because it is only a matter of time before fans begin to lose interest.
