Luciferians can rejoice as everyone’s favourite devilish detective duo is back in the City of Angels and this time they got demonic prophecies and apple-loving ladies to deal with.
However, fans are upset that the marvellous journey of Lucifer would be coming to an end with Season 5.
- Fox cancels, Netflix picks it
- A musical episode nine of Season 5
- Season 4 finale and predictions in Season 5
Netflix revived the urban fantasy drama after Fox cancelled it after the third season. Meanwhile, the fourth season was renewed following a vast social media campaign by the fans. The fifth season will split in two, Netflix is going to drop eight episodes, take a break, and then cut another eight episodes.
Someone’s going to be sporting their ‘Resting Devil Face.’
Meanwhile, Season 5 Episode nine will turn to the noir filmed in black-and-white. It will be a musical episode directed by Bola Ogun and written by Joshua Duckworth, Mira Z Barnum and Ricardo Lopez Jr. In addition, Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam will be featuring multiple musical numbers with the episode set in the 1940s. The final season will now premiere with a total number of sixteen chapters.
Here’s a tease of Season 5 Episode 9:
Season 4 finale of Lucifer on Netflix
At the end of season 3, Chloe discovers that Lucifer was quite literally the devil. Season 4 has been all about her coming to terms with this knowledge. Chloe struggles to fully accept Lucifer’s demonic side causing her to fall out with Luci which sets up the introduction of Eve, someone who already takes Lucifer for who he is and someone who’s also similar to him.
Eve had abandoned heaven because she was bored. Much the same way that Luci was bored of Hell when he moved to Los Angeles.
Eve is madly in love with Luci, but her obsession ends up being unhealthy for both of them. But eventually, by the end of season 4, Eve realizes that she needs to discover who she is indeed. It’ll be interesting to see if Eve is brought back into the show in season 5 of Lucifer.
Predictions in Season 5
What other ways could Lucifer get out of Hell in Season 5? For a clue, let’s revisit what happened at the end of the first season. In that season finale, Lucifer was killed and went to Hell although it was only temporarily as he made a deal with his father, God. An exact replay of that wouldn’t be possible this time as Lucifer needs a substitute to govern Hell in his place.
Another theory in place
One possibility might be that Luci asks God to send a different angel to keep control over the Underworld. Lucifer and Amendiel have several siblings, some of whom we’ve already met. There’s Azrael, aka the Angel of Death, who was introduced in the Season 3 bonus episode ‘Boo Normal’.
In that episode, Azrael revealed that Lucifer was one of her favourite brothers and that she’d always mean to visit him in Hell after his rebellion with God. We’ll have to see if she’ll make good on that and, come to see him in Season 5.
Alternative character to resolve Lucifer’s predicament
An alternative new role who could resolve Lucifer’s dilemma of being stuck in Hell is Lilith, Adam’s first wife. She was name-checked a couple of times in season 4, first by Eve and then by Maze. Now what’s interesting is that Eve said that ‘Lilith tamed the beast of the night’ suggesting that if she enters the show, she could be a fearsome ruler who could keep Hell’s demons in check.
Something that could be an intriguing twist is that rather than Lucifer going back to LA, Chloe could instead become his queen in Hell.
Expected Release Date
All episodes of Lucifer season 4 dropped at once on Netflix on May 8, 2019. And Netflix announced the renewal of the fifth season on June 6, 2019. Thus, season five would likely drop around mid-2020.
