After season 2 of Lost in Space ended, fans were waiting for a renewal announcement. It came a little late on March 9, 2020, when Variety annpunced the news.
There’s a great amount of buzz around the show, and the third season has got a lot of fans excited. Here is everything you need to know.

Since Netflix confirmed a season 3, there have been a dozen leaks and rumors. The fact is, no one knows the release date for sure, and no one is aware of what would be the storyline. However, there are several things we know for sure.

We know that the season was renewed before the pandemic locked the world down, so it’s possible that the filming has been delayed. Previously, speculation suggested that season 3 might come out earlier in 2021, but it now seems like a remote possibility. We are thinking late 2021 or mid-2022.
Season 3 of the space adventure will be the final one
Fans suffered a heartbreak when they came to know that Lost in Space season 3 will be the final one. Netflix has confirmed that the Robinson family’s space adventure will come to an end.
While discussing the show, show-runner Zack Estrin revealed that they began this series to conclude it as a trilogy.
“From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy: a three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle, and end,” he said.
What could the plot be for season 3?
A lot is going on in the story. Though we don’t have a confirmation on the season 3 plot, considering where the season 2 left us, we can make a decent guess.
Season 2 left us with a cliff-hanger. Towards the finale, the survivors of Resolute were forced to split up in the space. All the humans had to stay back while the kids were forced on the smaller Jupiter spacecraft with Judy Robinson in-charge of it.
Season 3 might pick up with a short leap, showing the struggles they faced in the meantime. The season will need to proceed, either towards reuniting the kids and the family, or it might choose to end on a tragic note.
The cliff-hanger of Judy’s ship encountering long-lost spaceship Fortuna and her biological father Grant Kelly, might also be the kicking off point for the season.
The confirmed cast for Season 3.
For the most part, almost all the characters who were alive by the end of Lost in Space season 2 will make it to season 3. However, there is certain doubt around the return and survival of some characters.
The return of Ben Adler (JJ Field) and Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) is in question as the characters were either killed or sacrificed towards the finale. However, it’s too early to say anything for sure.
