The CW has made the official announcement about its paranormal romance show ‘Legacies’ returning with its third season next year.
When The CW first developed its iconic teen fantasy drama ‘The Vampire Diaries’ in 2009, the viewers were introduced to a never seen before world of romance, drama, and all things supernatural. The show witnessed widespread popularity which prompted the showrunners to give fans a more mature spin-off – ‘The Originals‘. This new series too became a sensation in no time for its darker and edgier plot and powerhouse actors. Its success ultimately resulted in the 2018 spin-off – ‘Legacies‘. After 2 successful seasons, ‘Legacies’ was renewed for season 3 in January 2020 and is all set to premiere in January 2021. Here is everything we know about the upcoming season.

‘Legacies’: The third instalment of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ franchise
Just like the other installments of the franchise, ‘Legacies’ is set in ‘Mystic Falls‘ and follows the life of Klaus Mikaelson’s 17-year-old daughter Hope, who is now a student at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, along with the daughters of Alaric Saltzman (the school’s headmaster and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ alum), and other teenagers with supernatural abilities. It is the spin-off of ‘The Originals’ and focuses on paranormal creatures like vampires, werewolves, hybrids, and witches.

The show features a talented cast of newcomers including Danielle Rose Russell (Hope), Aria Shahghasemi (Landon Kirby), Kaylee Bryant, and Jenny Boyd (Saltzman twins), Peyton Alex Smith (Rafael Waithe), and more. The captivating story, strong narrative, and striking visual effects have brought the show both critical and popular approval.
Season 3: All that we know yet
Season 3 of the series has been confirmed to return on January 21st, 2020. Season 2 was abruptly wrapped up after the sixteenth episode due to the coronavirus pandemic but the production has commenced again now.
Julie Plec has announced that the musical episode that was supposed to be the nineteenth episode of season 2 will be happening in season 3 now. It will be a tribute to its predecessors ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’, according to executive producer Brett Matthews.
Season 3 will be building on several storylines from season 2. Hope and Landon’s fates are yet to be addressed as Hope was left locked in a sleeping spell and Landon was stabbed with the golden arrow and didn’t resurrect at the end of season 2. Also, the Necromancer became exceptionally powerful after stealing magic from Josie and will most likely become a huge problem for the protagonists in the upcoming season. Actors Leo Howard and Ben Levin have also been upped to series regulars and their characters Jed and Ethan will have a lot more screen-time in the upcoming season.
Will Joseph Morgan return as Klaus Mikaelson?
Since ‘Legacies’ is about Klaus’s daughter, fans are wondering whether Joseph Morgan will make an appearance on the show, reprising the role. However, in a recent episode, Morgan made it clear that it is likely to never happen. He was quoted saying, “No never, never. You’re never going to see it. You can hold your breath as long as you want. You know why? I have ‘The Originals’ box set on my shelf, and it’s a beautiful thing because it’s five DVD sets that are a complete story from beginning to end of this guy, Klaus Mikaelson — well, starting back in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 2. So I just feel like to come back as a ghost or a flashback or something, for me, that journey, that story has ended. That’s the complete story, and it just doesn’t feel right to me to do that”. He also expressed that showrunner Julie Plec is of the same opinion.
So, if you miss Klaus you can always watch reruns of ‘The Originals’, currently streaming on Netflix.
