A ‘BoJack Horseman’ movie in the pipeline?
Since ‘BoJack Horseman’ ended its run in 2020, fans have been waiting for the creator to share news or details on a ‘BoJack Horseman’ movie.
In an interview with “Collider”, creator Bob Waksberg was asked about the potential spin-offs of ‘BoJack Horseman’. To which Waksberg replied, “No”. He mentioned how there have been many conversations like, “Would you be interested in this”. And his answer has always been, again, “No”. He mentioned that they have told a story with their characters. Perhaps more stories could have been told with them, but he has decided to leave that to everyone’s imagination.
He also talked about how he enjoyed working on ‘Tuca & Bertie’, which is not a spin-off and is similar in some ways and a very different world in other ways. They do not exist in the same world, but he felt there is more you could do with animal characters. There is more you could do with Hollywood satire. More themes could be explored from the show. But he again conveyed that he did not really see the point of an official spin-off. He felt they have told the story and explored its world.
He did add that there might be some opportunities to reinterpret some stuff down the road. Though he felt that it is too early to really do that at the moment. If someone wanted to do the ‘BoJack Horseman’ opera, that might be interesting to him. That’s a different enough thing.
Waksberg further talked about how if anything that tries to take place in the canon of the show, or is an extension of the narrative of the show without completely reinterpreting it, he would not be very interested in it personally. In the end, he mentioned that the show actually doesn’t belong to him, it belongs to Tornante. So, if they want to reboot the show with a new creator, they can.
Sadly, fans who have to wait on the news for an upcoming ‘BoJack Horseman’ movie would have to wait a little longer.
Why was ‘BoJack Horseman’ cancelled?
At the end of 2019, creator Bob-Waksberg told “Vulture” that the decision was actually not his decision, but Netflix’s. Bob-Waksberg had actually planned for the series to continue for a couple of more years. But, unfortunately, Netflix told him that season 6 of ‘BoJack Horseman’ will be its last.
“You know, it is a business. They have got to do what is right for them, and six years is a very healthy run for a TV show”
Bob Waksberg told “Vulture”.
Well, fans certainly were not happy with Netflix’s decision as they wished to see more of ‘BoJack Horseman’ on-screen.
‘BoJack Horseman’ ending
The end of ‘BoJack Horseman’ saw BoJack checking into rehab. He was finally ready to get serious help for his substance abuse problems. After initial resistance, BoJack finally adapted to the rehab life. Though after getting proper help, he resisted returning to his normal life. After leaving the rehab, BoJack reconnected with his half-sister, Hollyhock. BoJack also figured out that he is interested in teaching and landed himself a job at Hollyhock’s university.
Later, Hollyhock found out about BoJack’s involvement in the New Mexico prom party, where he got a teenager nearly lethally drunk. When BoJack learned about it, he decided to take responsibility for the event. We also got to see BoJack trying to better himself into a mature person. Viewers of ‘BoJack Horseman’ got a sense of relief knowing that BoJack had finally become a better version of himself and would continue to do so in the future as well.
