Top 5 serial killer dramas to watch if you are a fan of ‘Hannibal’:
‘Mindhunter’
Starring: Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Hannah Gross
‘Mindhunter’ is a David Fincher/Netflix collaboration dramatizing real-life interviews with serial killers. It is the history of the FBI and how the psychological-criminal profiling used today took birth to identify and capture murderers. It tells the story of how criminal profiling, as we know it today, started as a low-brow theory.
This retelling of the real work done by former FBI Agents John E. Douglas and Robert K. Ressler is a treat for drama lovers and true-crime genre lovers alike. It combines the drama of Hollywood with real dialogue from interviews with some of the most infamous murderers in history.
‘The Alienist’
Starring: Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty
This limited series follows the story of an extemporary team of investigators who are assigned the task of finding the person behind a string of gruesome murders.
Working as a psychologist, or an “Alienist,” as they were referred to before people started believing in science, Dr Laszlo Kreizler (Bruhl) is enlisted by his college buddy and newly appointed commissioner of the NYPD, Theodore Roosevelt (Geraghty) to solve the killings of young, male sex workers in secret.

‘The Fall’
Starring:Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan, Archie Panjabi.
Before Jamie Dornan beguiled audiences in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, he played a fetching and charming serial killer named Paul Spector. He’s a family man but has a dark side to him. He stalks professional women in Belfast. He strangles them and then stages their limp corpses by cleansing them and painting their nails. Weird, right?
Gillian Anderson portrays detective Stella Gibson who develops a strange relationship with Spector, once she figures out who he is.
‘Luther’
Starring: Idris Elba, Ruth Wilson, Rose Leslie
Through four fast-paced and gripping series, ‘Luther’ hunts down several different serial killers, including a taxi driver who has a fetish for women’s handbags; murdering twins; and a hipster art student, aka Mr. Punch, who wears a Jigsaw-like mask.
‘Perfume’
Starring: Friederike Becht, August Diehl, Natalia Belitski
The story begins with the discovery of a woman’s body that’s been meticulously mutilated to remove her hair and scent glands.
With a few more bodies and a seemingly unique serial killer on the loose, the whimsical notion of murder for the sake of perfume gives this serious international drama its subtly chilling undertones.
How has ‘Hannibal’ defeated all the serial killer dramas in one go?
Seeing ‘Hannibal’, it is hard to believe that a show this graphic is so philosophical thematically. The show contains disturbing imagery of a cannibal named Hannibal Lector. You will see buckets of blood all over but at the “heart” of the symbolic murders is an unrequited love story between Dr Lecter and on-the-spectrum FBI consultant Will Graham (Dancy).
You may consider turning into a vegetarian after watching ‘Hannibal’ prepare a couple of his victims’ limbs and serve it to them while they’re still alive. No serial killer drama has done what ‘Hannibal’ could achieve in its short run for three seasons on TV. Though the scenes were so grotesque that it is hard to watch them with wide-open eyes, the philosophy so beautifully makes its way into our heart.
Now that ‘Hannibal’ has landed on Netflix in June 2020, the show has a platform that it was deprived of earlier. The show was never suited for TV audiences. With Netflix, ‘Hannibal’ has everything- a great serial killer content, genuine philosophy, and a mouth [Netflix] to tell its story. It has rightfully won the battle of all serial killer dramas.

Has ‘Hannibal’ been rebooted for season 4 on Netflix?
Not yet, but everything hints that the reboot of ‘Hannibal’ for season 4 is near. Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Hannibal Lecter, announced that the series has hit Netflix and all three seasons are being streamed. He also hinted that season 4 of ‘Hannibal’ is coming soon.
When the series came to the streaming service this month, Mikkelsen tweeted, “‘Hannibal’ hits Netflix in June: Is Hannibal season 4 on the way?” It seems like lady fortune has opened the door for ‘Hannibal’ after all!
