Have you ever thought about the possibility that the letter Jimmy thought was from Chuck in Better Call Saul might have been written by Kim Wexler?
This indeed seems farfetched, but one theory suggests that the letter addressed to Jimmy from his late brother Chuck in Season 4 of Better Call Saul was actually written by Kim Wexler.
Highlights
- Why would Kim Wexler fake Chuck’s letter to Jimmy in Better Call Saul?
- What Bob Odenkirk has to say about Kim’s letter theory?
- The obvious loopholes in the theory.
This does make sense when you look at the theory with all the context and the emotional reasons Kim had. Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman) has himself discussed this possibility.
In the final episode of Season 3, named “Lantern”, Chuck McGill (Michael McKean) sets his house at fire by intentionally knocking down a lantern, and killing himself in the fire. Later in the following season, Jimmy receives a letter addressed to him by Chuck.
The letter is supposedly written by Chuck several years ago and was found in the house. It was handed over to Jimmy by Kim, who received it from Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian).
However, a fan theory suggests that the letter wasn’t written by Chuck to Jimmy but was faked by Kim Wexler.
Why would Kim Wexler fake Chuck’s letter to Jimmy in Better Call Saul?
Kim Wexler, portrayed by Rhea Seehorn, has been the only well-wisher of Jimmy in the entirety of Better Call Saul. She was the sole witness of what Jimmy suffered because of Chuck. Kim was also aware of Jimmy’s nature of turning into Saul Goodman to get through his emotional and financial obstacles.
We all saw how the last quarrel between Jimmy and Chuck played a role in worsening Chuck’s condition and leading him to his fall. Thus, fans believe that Chuck might have written a rather bitter accusation to Jimmy, in an attempt to force him to feel the guilt.

As per fans, concerned Kim might have read the letter, and have changed it to something nicer, before forcing Jimmy to read it. Though her intention of Jimmy having sweet memories of his late brother failed as the letter had no impact on Jimmy, fans are pretty convinced that it was Kim who did it.
What Bob Odenkirk has to say about Kim’s letter theory?
When the theory of Kim Wexler and letter reached Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill and his alter ego Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, he discarded it without a second thought. Bob refused to consider the possibility that the letter was not written by Chuck and was faked by Kim.
Speaking to TV Line about the same, Bob Odenkirk responded: “Yeah, that’s crazy. I don’t believe that for a second and don’t think Kim wrote the letter. I think that’s what Chuck wrote a few years before, and it’s just pro forma bulls**t that Chuck was spouting to the world.”
Odenkirk further explained that this might have been just another way of Chuck to say “weird f**k you” to Jimmy. And also, as Chuck always loved pretending to be the benevolent brother, the letter emitted the exact vibes.
The obvious loopholes in the theory.
Though the theory of Kim Wexler faking Chuck’s letter in Better Call Saul Season 4 seems believable at first, there are some too obvious loopholes.
The very first flaw in the theory is the fact that if Kim did read Chuck’s supposedly rude letter, then why she bothered to inform Jimmy about it at all. Jimmy had no idea about the letter as it was Kim who obtained it from Howards, she could have simply kept Jimmy in the dark about it.
Secondly, in the letter, Chuck talked about the days before Jimmy became the lawyer. As we all know Chuck despised Jimmy being a lawyer, the letter had an opposite impact on Jimmy for that fact. If Kim really wrote the letter to make Jimmy feel good about it, she could have written about his days as a lawyer.
And the last:
The letter was too detailed with Jimmy’s past for Kim to be able to fake it. At a point in the letter, Chuck stated,
“I remember quite clearly the day you came home from the hospital. You can’t imagine the joy on mom’s face. I can honestly say I never saw her happier than she was on that day”.
These details are wild for even Jimmy to have the knowledge of, so Kim adding them in the letter seems too far-fetched.
Thus, we too really believe that the letter was written by Chuck to his beloved brother Jimmy.
Do you believe that Kim Wexler faked Chuck’s letter in Better Call Saul? If yes, tell us how she got all the details of Jimmy’s past?
