Amazon confirms that Tom Clancy’s reluctant analyst will ride into battle once again! According to several reports, the political spy thriller ‘Jack Ryan’ has already been renewed for season 3.
The expensive action series that costs the showrunners 8-10 million dollars per episode to make proved to be a huge streaming hit. So, here’s everything we know about Amazon’s ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 3.
What was ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 2 about?
We saw Jim Halpert, who left his stable job as a paper salesman at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton, changed his name to Jack, did a tour of Afghanistan, and joined the CIA as a financial analyst.
Jack’s story in season 2 had reached a satisfying denouement with the election of left-wing populist Gloria Bonalde (Cristina Umana) to the Venezuelan presidency, followed by her tearful reunion with her intellectual husband, a political prisoner held for years by the prior administration. With accounts settled in South America and no cliffhanger left, you’d wonder what could possibly be left for Ryan to do in season 3.
But consider this, each season, so far, has focused on a single self-contained mission — one story told from start to finish over eight episodes, with season 2 featuring several characters and thematic elements carried over from the first season. Because of such a format, it leaves plenty of room to speculate about what might be forthcoming.

When will ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 3 air?
Season 1 premiered on August 13, 2018, and was followed by season 2 which aired on October 31, 2019. While getting one season per year to screens used to be the norm, streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu take much more liberty with the schedule. It’s the new normal for popular shows to wait months for a renewal order, and then take years to actually produce the ordered content. But ‘Jack Ryan’ fans need not worry as the show’s production team is quite efficient in keeping the releases annual.

Amazon announced ‘Jack Ryan’s’ third season renewal back in February 2019 during the Television Critics’ Association press tour. According to reports, showrunning duties have been passed to ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ veteran Vaun Wilmott. However, no official announcement has been made about a potential release date for the new set of episodes.
Also, just like several other series, ‘Jack Ryan’ has fallen victim to the industry-wide production halt caused by the ongoing global health emergency. Earlier this year, it looked like season 3 was on schedule and was set for fall 2020 release, but that expectation now looks unrealistic. So, at this point, the release will ultimately depend on when the production team can safely return to work. Keeping the current situation in mind, viewers will be lucky to see Ryan’s next adventure by early 2021. But don’t rule out the possibility of it being pushed for even later. A few reports are already speculating that fans might have to wait until 2022.
Cast for season 3
For sure we have John Krasinksi as Jack Ryan. In addition, we could see Wendell Pierce as James Greer, Abbie Cornish as Dr Cathy Mueller, Ali Suliman as Mousa bin Suleiman, Dina Shihabi as Hanin Ali.
And also actors like Noomi Rapace as Harriet Harry, Jordi Mollà as Nicolás Reyes, Francisco Denis as Miguel Ubarri, Cristina Umaña as Gloria Bonalde, Jovan Adepo as Marcus Bishop and Michael Kelly as Mike will reprise their roles.
What could happen in season 3?
While the showrunners are tight-lipped when it comes to info about season 3, Krasinski, who also serves as executive producer on the series, came forward to offer his insight into the aspects of his character’s journey that appealed to him in season 2.
“My favourite part of season 2 was the change in Jack”, he said. He further added, “I think that Jack Ryan, in the beginning of the first season, you see him as … He tells you, like, 14 times that he’s just an analyst. That, I think, is what he always wanted to be — just the guy who delivers the information, and never gets into the fight”.
Fans everywhere are combining the Jack Ryan novels for clues to crack season 3’s plot but are unlikely to turn up with anything noteworthy. As with previous seasons, ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 3 is unlikely to stick to the letter of its source material. So, looks like we will have to wait around till ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 3 premieres.
