‘Hot in Cleveland’ was not just another TV series. It was TV Land’s first original that premiered on June 16, 2010, and went on to become TV Land’s highest-rated telecast in the cable network’s 14-year history.
Created by Suzanne Martin, Sean Hayes, and Todd Milliner, the series has left many wondering if it’s making a comeback anytime soon. ‘Hot in Cleveland‘ revolves around the lives of three ageing female friends from Los Angeles. Writer Melanie Moretti played by Valerie Bertinelli, beautician Joy Scoggs played by Jane Leeves, and actress Victoria Chase starring as Wendie Malick.

After their flight to Paris makes a sudden emergency landing in Ohio, the group finds itself enamoured by Clevelandcity’s welcoming vibe.
They ladies finally move there and lease a home with a sassy caretaker, Elka Ostrovsky, played by the popular Betty White.
The hit series also launched a spin-off titled ‘The Soul Man’ starring Cedric the Entertainer. The spin-off has run for a total of five seasons so far.
So is season 7 cancelled or returning?
After six seasons, TV Land’s signature original comedy series ‘Hot in Cleveland’ called it a wrap.
The decision to end the hit show sent shock waves to its loyal fans. The announcement to axe the series came three months after creator Suzanne Martin told “The Hollywood Reporter” that she would “love to do at least eight seasons“.
TV Land president Larry W. Jones said,
“After five incredible seasons of ‘Hot in Cleveland’, the sixth season, currently in production, will be its last”.
Expressing gratitude towards the show’s ensemble of cast, Jones added that the passion and talent the team brought to the set each and every week, over the past five years, was the reason TV Land could be on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming.
The series, which celebrated its 100th episode in September 2015, was licensed in 210 countries and syndicated in 96 percent of the country.
Why did the show end before its time?
As mentioned before, the show creators, in a sudden announcement, revealed that the series is calling it quits.
While Martin wanted ‘Hot in Cleveland’ to go on for at least eight seasons, she told the entertainment portal that — in a strange way — she felt that it was time for the series to end.
“I think TV Land’s new direction was a big part of it”, Martin said while addressing the cancellation in 2015.
“We’ll see if that ends up working … I would have been happy to do more seasons, but it felt a little like it was time. We’re so proud of everything we did. Betty is healthy and everyone is good. So maybe it was best that it ends with everything on a high note.”
Meanwhile, the creative decision didn’t sit well with everyone. Valerie Bertinelli, even years after her sitcom ended, expressed her anger about the cancellation in an interview.
The 58-year-old actress, who played Melanie Moretti for all seasons of the comedy hit series, told the “Wrap” that she is still fuming over TV Land’s decision to cancel the top-rated show back in 2015.
As far as season 7 of the show is concerned, there’s no official confirmation about if the show will ever be revived or not. But looking back at the success of the sitcom, one can hope that the creators change their mind and bring it back with another season.
