While we all desperately need news regarding the return of ‘Homeland’ Season 9 on Showtime, the creators have teased the possibilities of the return.
It is always hard for fans to digest that their favourite show has finally come to an end. The same is true for ‘Homeland‘ fans as well. The show that came to an end in April this year had its fans going crazy over the lack of renewal. There still has not been any confirmation regarding the return of ‘Homeland’ Season 9 on Showtime. But that doesn’t mean that season 9 possibilities are dead. This is because, very recently, the creators of the show have strongly teased the possibility of another season. Let’s take a look at what they have to say!
- Is ‘Homeland’ returning with a ninth season on Showtime?
- Where did season 8 leave us?
- Creators teased season 9 – but not too soon.
Is ‘Homeland’ returning with a ninth season on Showtime?
The American spy thriller show, based on the Israeli series ‘Prisoners of War‘, has been showered with love from the fans since it’s debut on TV in 2011. ‘Homeland’, created by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, had a successful run of 8 seasons as it ended with the finale season on April 26, 2020. Even though a run of 8 seasons for a scripted drama is a rare achievement nowadays, fans want the creators to bring back ‘Homeland’ with season 9 on Showtime.
The show called it an end with the latest season, yet the nature of the finale, which stayed open-ended, makes us wonder if the creators have already have a carry forward plan or a spin-off for the spy thriller. Whatever the plan is, all we need is a confirmation for the renewal of the show.
Where did season 8 leave us?
While season 8 of ‘Homeland’ concluded most of its arc and plots, the show left a couple of things unanswered and kept the finale open-ended. This made fans curious about the possibility of ‘Homeland’ Season 9 on Showtime.
The finale blew the fans away with a major twist that had Carrie (Claire Danes) assigned with the task of killing her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). However, she decided against it. The show took a time leap towards the end of the finale episode when viewers find out that Carrie had been signed as Saul’s new Russian informant.
The show ended with Carrie living with Yevgeny Gromov (Costa Ronin) in Russia and proceeding with her spying duties. The time jump towards the end gave the story of ‘Homeland’ a new sort of start.
Creators teased a ninth season – but not too soon.
While fans have been asking for season 9 of ‘Homeland’ on Showtime, the creators of the show have also hinted at the possibility. However, nobody is sure of when we should expect it.
In an interview with TV Line after the finale season of ‘Homeland’, the co-creator Alex Gansa was asked if this was really the end of the show and of Carrie’s story. He said:
“Sadly, I really think so. It was such a unique and extraordinary experience”. “And I think the story ended where it should’ve ended.” Alex Gansa further teased a season 9 by quoting co-creator Howard Gordon with his never say never remark. He said, “Howard says, ‘Never say never’, but I think all of us are beyond grateful for the experience and are now ready to go on and do something else.”
“Who knows what will happen in five or six years. But, at the moment, I feel like you have seen the last of her.”
We aren’t very alien to this ‘Never say never’ phrase by the creators, and we have witnessed them returning with the shows as soon as a network comes up with a legit offer. And, with the open-ended finale on Showtime, we are already confident of the creator’s intention towards season 9 of ‘Homeland’. All we hope is for it to happen as soon as possible.
