Is Netflix secretly cooking the recipe of ‘Arrested Development’ Season 6? Check all the details here.
Are we soon getting ‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6 on Netflix? If Netflix is there, another season of ‘Arrested Development‘ is not impossible in this age of revivals. The show that started on Fox in 2003, is a high concept comedy about the wealthy, amoral Bluth family. The show faced rating challenges season after season.

Even though they struggled to gain viewership, they were undoubtedly a darling series for the critics. Fox cancelled the series after its third season in 2006, despite the fact that it won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series three years in a row. After the talks of revival weren’t ceasing, Netflix decided to bring the series back in 2012.
What happened in season 5?
Much of the cast had by then become Hollywood heavyweights with busy schedules in the intervening years. This led to season 4 consisting of character-specific vignettes. In this format, many of the characters never interacted with each other due to the actors’ other commitments. Season 5 largely went back to basics after they realised that the new format adopted in season 4 was polarizing. For the convenience of Hollywood biggies, season 5 was split in half. The first half aired in early 2018, and the second half debuted in March 2019.
Lucille 2’s murderer is finally revealed in season 5, so the series ended on a very dark note. Michael and George Michael, just like in season 3, abandoned the family for greener pastures. Whether there are more angles for the Bluths to work is still unclear.
Is Netflix making ‘Arrested Development ‘Season 6?
‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6 is yet to receive a green signal but there are genuine questions over whether they are secretly planning another season. A top Netflix executive didn’t close the door on the possibility, saying there have been no discussions about another season as of yet, though several factors are almost certainly being weighed.
The show has lost the favourable position it held for critics in its Fox years. Even though the reviews for the Netflix series get hostile, the cast is still in high demand. Jason Bateman and Will Arnett star in other, hipper Netflix shows like ‘Ozark’ and ‘Bojack Horseman’ respectively, which are loved by audiences worldwide. The logistics of getting them all together for another season will be more difficult than ever. But, it’s not impossible for a platform like Netflix.
But, what about Jeffrey Tambor’s involvement, the elephant in the room? Amid a wave of sexual harassment allegations, Tambor was fired from his hit Amazon series ‘Transparent’. He was revealed to have driven ‘Arrested Development‘ co-star Jessica Walter to tears.
Making things worse, in an infamous New York Times profile of the cast to promote season 5, the majority of the show’s male cast came off as insensitive to Walter’s feelings and oblivious to the larger cultural moment. Taking this factor in account, it is hard to imagine for Netflix to go back into business with Tambor anytime soon, at least after the ‘House of Cards‘ controversy. Netflix decides to dissociate themselves from Kevin Spacey as soon as he was charged with sexual assault crimes.
It seems logical that Netflix can’t be enthusiastic about ‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6, with all the practical and logistical headaches involved. The show rose from the ashes before, but its revival seems even more doubtful this time.

Release date of ‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6
If it happens, though it seems impossible, ‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6 can’t be expected to release soon. It took five years to get the cast back together for season 5. To claim that Netflix is secretly cooking season 6 of ‘Arrested Development‘ is pure fiction.
What will happen on Season 6?
The dangling plot threads in the show were mostly resolved at the end of season 5, and it appeared like a natural end for the series. If somehow the show did return for season 6, it would revolve around the fallout of the reveal of Buster as Lucille 2’s murderer. The revelation had left the family in a rare moment of speechlessness.
Michael and George Michael will be dragged into the family drama they seemed to be escaping at the end of season 5. This has happened to them earlier at the end of season 3. The cycle of family dysfunction would begin again, and although ‘Arrested Development‘ Season 6 is far from a sure thing, there would still be some story to tell.
