‘Hell on Wheels’ Season 6 cancellation
In 2014, it was reported by “TV Line” that ‘Hell on Wheels’ has been renewed by AMC. However, season 6 of ‘Hell on Wheels’ had been cancelled. Just like ‘Mad Men‘ and ‘Breaking Bad‘, the network further declared that the final season would be divided into two parts. The first seven episodes of the show premiered in the summer of 2015. Whereas the remaining seven episodes aired in the later part of 2016.
“With season 5 of ‘Hell on Wheels’, we are proud to bring our trans-continental journey to the conclusion for the large, loyal audience that has travelled with Cullen Bohannon and his crew for so many years. We look forward to appropriately honouring ‘Hell on Wheels’ in this final season. Enormous thanks to the terrific writers, cast, and crew for all they have achieved and for all that lies ahead in the Wild West”

Said the AMC president Charlie Collier in a statement.
Fans of the show were shocked to learn about the cancellation of ‘Hell on Wheels’ Season 6. Its fourth season delivered an average of 3.4 million viewers in Live+3 to date. It progressed from its season 3 viewership of 3.3 million. During its fourth season, ‘Hell on Wheels’ was among the top-20 ad-supported cable dramas. It also garnered the attention of a much larger audience that was enjoying its episodes. Also, for the first time, ‘Hell on Wheels’ began to appear on the list of top 20 Xfinity on-demand shows.
Season 5 ending
The final episode of ‘Hell on Wheels’ began with Huntington and Durant still at loggerheads. All of Washington’s most elite and workers came together and had a ceremony marking the railroad’s completion and driving the golden spike into the road. However, Cullen was not seen as he had other important matters to attend to. He was very concerned about Mei’s return to China. Cullen headed to Mickey’s where a bar fight also erupts. John Campbell serves Durant with a subpoena for bribery and corruption charges.
Mickey visits Durant. He finds out that Durant is buying out his stake in the railroad. Mickey does not want to sell. Durant tells him that it will be worthless once word gets out about the corruption hearings.
Louise Ellison fails at convincing Eva that her life needed to be part of high society. That she needs to prove to herself that she can make it on her own without any charity from anyone.
Even though season 6 of ‘Hell on Wheels’ has been cancelled, fans have still been asking for a spin-off. They have been hoping that the spin-off could feature a time travel track.
Cullen gets invited to a fancy gala on President Grant’s request. Durant attends the gala too and tries finding where he fits. At the gala, Cullen tells the president that he is not an Indian killer and instead is a railroad man. President Grant rubbishes his statement and tells him he is a soldier who is lost without a war to fight. Durant and Cullen later have one final meeting.
Eva visits Mickey to get her ten per cent. He asks her to go with him to San Francisco, but she refuses.
Cullen ends up accepting the offer of President Grant. The only thing he agrees to say is that the transcontinental railroad could not have been built without Durant.
Duran tells Congress that he doesn’t care what history will say about him. He is only interested in the things that he saw and did. In the end, Mickey goes to San Francisco. Cullen also goes there, but instead of meeting with Huntington, he buys a ticket for China.
