‘Head of the Class’ premiered on HBO Max in November 2021. As a remake of a hugely successful ABC series of the same name, it did not earn enough good points with the streaming service to earn a revival.
HBO has a reputation for producing some of the most powerful drama series of all time. The shows ‘Game of Thrones‘ and ‘Westworld‘ are prime examples of their dominance. However, they also have some fantastic lighthearted series in their catalogue, such as ‘Head of the Class.’ The sitcom first aired in 1986 and continued until 1991. It was a huge success for the ABC Network, which compelled HBO to create their version of the show. The rights got purchased, and production began with a planned release date of November 20, 2021. However, both critics and audiences gave the series a mixed reaction. As a result, HBO Max deemed it unworthy of a second season.

‘Head of the Class’ Season 2 Release Date
The series follows an interesting premise. It follows the life of a group of teenagers who are overachievers when it comes to academics. However, they lack an interest in the overall development of their minds and their personalities. Hence, they get a teacher who wants them to focus less on their academics and more on their overall life experiences. This premise was popular in the mid-1980s, and it still sounds relevant today. That’s why Rich Eustis and Michael Elias got tasked with creating the modern-day series.
In December 2021, HBO Max announced that they were not going ahead with ‘Head of the Class’ further. However, never say never, as there are always chances of the second season finding its way. If the fan demands are high, HBO Max can rethink their decision to cancel the series, following the example of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’.
‘Head of the Class’ reboot
Starring Isabella Gomez as the said teacher and a host of new young actors as high schoolers, the series premiered on HBO Max on November 4, 2021. Streamed for a total of 10 episodes in the first season, it was well-received by the critics and the audiences. It eventually went on to become a moderate success. But due to its low budget nature and the high chances of the series picking up pace after the second season, it was assumed that HBO Max would let the series run for at least three more seasons.
Let’s see if the second season of ‘Head of the Class’ ever finds the light of the day. For now, it stands cancelled officially.
