Ridley Scott’s new science fiction drama series ‘Raised By Wolves’ has been renewed for season 2 after a successful first season.
Inspired by the Ridley Scott universe, ‘Raised by Wolves’ premiered on September 3rd, 2020 on HBO Max. Created by screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski, the sci-fi series instantly became the talk of the town with its never-seen-before-on-television visual effects, set, and costume design, labyrinthine plot, and subplots, and out of the world conceptualization. The show is stunning in terms of its looks and yet dark and unsettling in terms of its content. It is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious ventures of HBO Max yet and has opened to widespread critic approval. Described as a captivating juxtaposition of all of Scott’s work till date, the show has already established quite a following and has been renewed for a season 2.

‘Raised by Wolves’: Intense. Idiosyncratic. Imaginative.
‘Raised by Wolves’ is unlike anything you have experienced. The premise of the show is that earth has been destroyed and human beings are on the brink of extinction as a result of the war between the atheists and theists. Looking to colonize a new planet, Kepler-22b, the atheists send to it 2 androids and several human embryos. Years later, a group of theists called Mithraic is hell-bent on infiltrating Kepler-22b and start a war between androids and humans.

Travis Fimmel plays Marcus, the leader of Mithraic, and a man with secrets. Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim play Mother and Father respectively, the two android protectors on Kepler-22b. The talented relatively lesser-known cast of the series has made a massive impression with season 1. The show has received favourable ratings from critics globally.
Welcome to Ridley Scott’s world
The first two episodes of season 1 were directed by the highly acclaimed American director, Ridley Scott, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. Known for movies like ‘Alien’, ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Gladiator’, ‘American Gangster’, ‘Prometheus’, and ‘The Martian’, ‘Raised by Wolves’ marks his return to television as a director almost after 50 years.
Scott has defined his process as shifting from visual image to visual image in his head and said that it was the script of the show that inspired him to direct the episodes. While agreeing that the show is like a continuation of all of Scott’s idea of science fiction, showrunner Guzikowski confessed,
“Sure. I was hugely influenced by him growing up. I still have the Xenomorph toy my parents bought me when I was five that came out in the late ’70s. I still have it, and I was obsessed with it. I watched ‘Blade Runner’ in my basement repeatedly. I was just completely obsessed with all that stuff. His aesthetic, his take on science fiction, and artificial intelligence specifically was a huge influence … That idea that an android doesn’t have to be made of metal, it doesn’t have to look like an android, and making me think more about, well, how different am I from that? … Then meeting and working with him so closely on this, it was just a dream come true. He was so involved and just so excited to bring this thing to life, so it was great”.
