‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 is here, and we have a lot of questions. Is the show going to handle the pandemic? Is DeLuca really suffering from his father’s demons? And, most importantly, what shocks and departures will this season bring along?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has been running up and strong for nearly fifteen years now. The life of Meredith Grey and her fellow surgeons has been inspiring and intriguing for many throughout the years. There have been deaths and tears, but there have been inspiring moments and cheers as well. The medical drama has been running for the longest time, but in no way have the fans ever indicated that they have had enough of it. With ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 soon to premiere in the upcoming days, there are a lot of questions that the fans want to be answered. While some are with respect to the remnants of the last season, there are fresh ones emerging from the pandemic.
- ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 16 was left on a cliffhanger after a hurried finale
- ‘Station 19’ Season 3 filled in the gaps with its own finale
- But there were many questions left unanswered
- With the pandemic rearing high and so much more, what will ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 offer?
What is it that we can expect from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17?
The panic of the pandemic
Covid-19 hit us hard and fast in 2020. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 will definitely be looking at the pandemic and we can hope to see our favourite doctors taking the pandemic head-on. From the promos that have been released and the hints that are being dropped every now and then, it is evident that the show will be dealing with the pandemic. Dr Bailey or Dr Grey, we will be seeing them all donning the pandemic gear and being the cinematic representation of the heroes that the doctors have been during this tricky time.
‘Greys Anatomy’ Season 17 will be premiering with ‘Station 19‘ Season 4. The latter is a spin-off series which tackles the lives of the firefighters who are also a part of Grey’s universe, the most prominent one being Ben Warren, who has also been a part of ‘Grey’s’ and is married to Dr Miranda Bailey.
What has happened to Andrew DeLuca?
The previous season showed the celebrated doctor, who is also Meredith’s love interest, slowly spiralling into madness. This has been attributed to his father’s medical condition but was not confirmed until now. In fact, when Andrew successfully diagnosed Richard Webber in the last episode of season 16, everyone thought that he is finally fine, and DeLuca’s delusion, was, well, just a delusion. Seems like, it was not. Just in the next scene, we see him being absolutely distraught and as Meredith guides him home, we are scared, that maybe, she will witness another loss to a mental disease, the first one being her mother Dr Ellis Grey.
Mc Widow and Jo?
Until now, there has been no indication of this romance. Mc Widow or Dr Cormac Hayes comes to Grey Sloan at the behest of Christina, who later messages Meredith to tell her that he is a gift. Though we see sparks brewing between the two, we know that Mer is currently going strong with DeLuca. With the latter’s condition and needs, it will be difficult for Meredith to pursue another romance. Knowing her, she won’t. However, we have a new, single doctor on board, our own Jo Wilson. With Alex’s untimely departure in the last season, where he takes off to live his life with Izzie and their kids, Jo is now on her own. But Jo is a strong character and we are sure she will come out of it.
Cormac too has a dark past of his own, with his wife’s death looming on his mind. Nevertheless, it looks like he may find a match at Grey Sloan. And, if he does, we think that he and Jo would be good together. Will this romance be our mere speculation or will this be a reality? The question will hopefully be answered in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 which will premier this week.
Will the doctors survive the pandemic and other questions?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is known to shock the viewers with its finales. Deaths have been a heartbreaking constant, with the fans still not being over some of their favourite characters who were killed off on the show. With the doctors working hard to save lives during the pandemic, will they be able to keep themselves safe? Personally, knowing Grey’s record, we have our fingers crossed.
Another question is regarding Richard and Catherine’s marriage. The last season wrecked a catastrophe on Richard’s brain, causing him to create certain scenarios and forget many. Their relationship surely did not end on a good note. It will be for us to see what happens next. Maggie’s newfound romance with a former resident, post her breakup with Jackson, is also one interesting angle we wish to know more about.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 has a lot of meat to offer. Fans, it’s time to dig in with the doctors of Grey Sloan.
