Grey’s Anatomy Original Member Ellen Pompeo to return as Doctor Meredith Grey for Season 17 confirmed.
The most exhausting emotional ride of our lives of watching a fictional medical drama came to an end on April 9 after 16 seasons. Well, just for a while. Grey’s Anatomy has been confirmed to renew for Season 17.
Season 17 doesn’t have a return date as of yet amid the COVID-19 crisis due to which Season 16 also had to wrap up early stopping 4 episodes short of what was originally planned.
Highlights
- Season 17- Everything We Know
- A Bitter-Sweet Goodbye
- What’s Coming Next
But here’s everything we know so far about our favourite medical drama for the fans who are in this journey from the beginning-

Season 17- Everything We Know
For those of you who don’t know, Season 16 and 17 were renewed together back in May 2019. With the renewal of the two seasons also came another great news.
Ellen Pompeo who needs no introduction as Doctor Meredith Grey has in fact confirmed that she will be reprising her role in the series. Her reason for coming back? The loyal audience of course.
She added that it wasn’t really the show’s creators who have kept the show going on for so long but quite the opposite. The fans have been loyal to the long running show which started back in 2005!! To quit a hit show doesn’t make any sense to her. (Neither does the millions of dollars to lose I’m presuming)
Considering the situation we are, we aren’t be expecting another Season till 2021.
A Bitter-Sweet Goodbye:
Despite being hit by the Pandemic perhaps the 16th Season will be most remembered for the exit of the beloved actor and one of the show’s original cast members Justin Chambers who played Doctor Alex Karev on the show.
Not only are we going to miss his fun personality, his friendship with Meredith but also with him leaving a new wave of nostalgia washes over us. How do you say goodbye to a character after 16 years?

The show although had a perfect ending planned for him in the form of a homage to his original and only true love Izzie played by Katherine Heigl. The fact that we get to see him leaving to be with her is exactly what Alex deserved and we would like to take this moment to thank the writers for writing this moment so beautifully.
Nevertheless, miss you we shall.
What’s Coming Next:
A complicated love story and a life altering medical research for why Richard Webber has been experiencing hallucinations is what the ending of Season 16 saw.
Meredith Grey and Andrew De Luca (Giacomo Gianniotti) have been working very close to solve the hallucination dilemma with them realising it is caused by cobalt poisoning from Webber’s hip replacement surgery. They then enlist Dr Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln (Chris Carmack) to perform the cobalt removal surgery.
But we can’t focus on whether finds himself well on the road of recovery or not when the bigger question here is, who will Meredith likely be making the moves with in the upcoming season?
Apparently, there might be hope for the former couple but things are not off the table for Meredith Grey and Lincoln either.
Here’s hoping, wishing, dreaming for Season 17 to grace our screens soon and to not break our hearts. The world is already taking care of that. But Grey’s Anatomy is nothing without it’s gut wrenching-shatter you to your bones emotional drama either, right?
