The seventh season of Showtime’s espionage drama Homeland wrapped up on television last April.
The network immediately renewed the series for season 8 but also delivered the disappointing news to the fans that it will be the final chapter to the Clair Danes drama serial. Initially, the eight and the final season of Homeland was expected to premiere in June of 2019.

But Showtime revealed that the release date was moved back to the fall of 2020. The reason for this delay is the demands of international productions with the final chapter set in Afghanistan and filmed in Morocco.

On a positive note, the creative team has expressed that the final season of Homeland is going to be memorable, moving and even surprising.
While the first five seasons released in September-October, the last two seasons have launched early in the year. The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning American drama series will air on Sunday, February 9 at 9 PM. The acclaimed hit series will have a total of 12 episodes.

Cast of season 8 of Homeland?
The soul and heart of the show Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson and Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison will sure set the tone in the eight seasons. Other names include F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal who is behind the bars, however still alive.

According to showrunner Alex Gansa, season seventh and eight were closely tied to culminate into a logical end. While the seventh season remained on home turf, the plan for season 8 was to move abroad with a significant time jump.
In an interview given to an entertainment website, Alex Gansa has hinted at a circular narrative for the eighth season. So it will go back to where it all began. The show began in Israel (Prisoner of War/Hatufim).

The eighth and final season of Homeland sees Carrie Mathison (Danes) recuperating from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag. Her body is recovering, but her memory remains fragmented.
This turns as a predicament for Saul (Patinkin) who is now a National Security Advisor to the newly elected President Warner (Beau Bridges).

The first priority of Warner’s young administration is to put a full stop to the unending war in Afghanistan. Saul has been deployed to engage with the Taliban in peace negotiations.
But Kabul teems with zealots, warlords, spies, and mercenaries. In this dire time, Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can extend. Against medical advice, Saul insists Carrie walk with him into the lion’s den – one final time.

What’s the future of the show?
In early 2016, before the seventh season had even aired, Gansa confirmed that the eight seasons of Homeland would be it’s last. But, in June 2018, Claire Danes said that Homeland’s future is totally uncertain. Certainly, it is the kind of show that could keep going on because of its strange model. It can mutate in ways a lot of shows can’t.
