- ‘The Expanse’: Cancelled, or paused?
Originally airing on Syfy, the show was cancelled abruptly after three seasons by the network. Helped on by fan campaigns, the show was finally revived by Amazon Studios. The show was given the green light for a sixth season renewal only a few weeks before the debut of the fifth season, by the end of which the show is supposed to wrap up its narrative arc.
However, the latest update has sent fans in a tizzy regarding the future of the show. Will season 6 be the last we’ll see of ‘The Expanse’ characters? Here’s taking a look.
‘The Expanse’ Season 6: Release date and cast
The fifth season released only recently in December, and with much of the season to air yet, ‘The Expanse’ Season 6 release date may not come out so soon. Production will have to resume first, and due to the pandemic still raging on, this itself could take a while.

However, reports suggest that season 6 is tentatively set to start production as early as late January 2021. Given the pandemic conditions, this may be subject to change.
For season 6, the only original cast who won’t be returning is Cas Anvar, who has been slapped with multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Except him, the other cast members will be back and this will include Steven Strait, with Naren Shankar returning as showrunner.
‘The Expanse’: Cancelled, or paused?
Now the question that needs addressing is if ‘The Expanse’ Season 6 is going to be the season finale.
Apparently, it was, and then the writers turned around and said that after the sixth season the show won’t be cancelled … it will only be on pause.
“We have what we think is a very natural pause point for the story after season 6″, said Ty Franck, one of the show’s writers, to “Polygon”.
“It’ll feel like a satisfying end to the story we’ve been building over the first five seasons. I think one of the things that is sort of an outmoded idea is the idea of being canceled”.
Does this mean that the show could still go on? Stay with us for updates, we have our eyes peeled!
