Why Ellen Pompeo keeps coming back for more ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
The actress who has become a known industry name recently revealed the reason for her long-time stint on the show. Pompeo said that had she been in her 20s, she would have quit the show after the six years of her contracts were up.
But by the time her six years were up, Pompeo was comfortably married with children. So, instead of branching out for other creative opportunities, she decided to stay put and give the current role she had her everything.
In other words, she chose family over career, and that choice has resulted in her earning millions while being Dr Meredith Grey to her fans for 17 successful seasons now. Her contract is up after the season that comes up next, so what lies in the future of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Everything we know about season 17
Season 16 and 17 were renewed together back in May 2019, and Ellen Pompeo will be reprising her role as Dr Meredith Grey in them. Considering the situation, with the pandemic putting a pause on film and TV shoots, we can’t expect another season till 2021. (That too if we’re lucky!)

From what we know so far, all of the lead characters are set to return for the 17th season. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Dr Jackson Avery(Jesse Williams), Dr Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), Dr Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) have all confirmed their presence in the next season.
Jesse Williams, who signed on with Hulu’s show ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ left the fans a bit scared following this news. He later confirmed that he has no plans of leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and is looking forward to being a part of season 17.
What will we see in the next season?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Season 17 plot theories
The ending of season 16 saw things getting bleak. The season which ended a few episodes early due to COVID-19 saw Richard Webber almost die of cobalt poisoning from an old hip replacement surgery. Dr Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln (Chris Carmack) then performs the cobalt removal surgery.
The poisoning though is detected by Dr Andrew, who had been dealing with his mental health issues and is taken home by Meredith, who finds him quite distressed. Before Meredith takes Andrew home, she accepts an invitation to have drinks with Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood).
So, the question remains- Who will Meredith likely be making the moves with, in the upcoming season? Now, this is a love triangle we did not see coming, but we wholly welcome it.
