In our previous article (link given below) we shared the news of the return of Sherlock Season 5, its release date, plot and cast. We dug deeper and found out that one of the show’s central character will not be returning in Season 5. Any guesses who?
As we know Sherlock Holmes and John Watson love solving the most complicated mysteries together. The duo’s rendezvous began in 2010 and continued for four seasons until BBC decided to pull the plug on from its detective drama show.
However, nearly five years later, since its last episode aired on Television, Sherlock has been renewed for another season by BBC.
Who’s not coming back in Sherlock Season 5?
Even though there’s a huge desire among the fans to see Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (John Watson) reunite in Season 5 of Sherlock. However, the fans desire may not be fulfilled after all.
Benedict and Martin do not share a very cosy relationship off-set. The two don’t spend time apart from shoots and in spite of having shot together for Sherlock for six years, the two don’t share an amicable relationship. Their on-screen camaraderie does not transcend in real life.
Citing this as a reason, Martin Freeman character as Sherlock’s roommate-turned-investigating partner John Watson will not be returning in Season 5 of Sherlock.
But replacing him with somebody else is like that annoying piece of food that is stuck on your throat, hard to gulp down and difficult to spit it out. Martin as John is forever irreplaceable and I, as a personal Sherlock fan, am disheartened.
Any man replacing John Watson’s character will have to try hard to fit into his shoes as our vivid imaginations of Martin as Watson are still afresh.
Why is the show so popular?
BBC’s Sherlock is one of the most brilliant detective shows that is on television. In addition, all four seasons of Sherlock are available for streaming on Netflix.
Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock essays the role of a brilliant detective that is hard to beat under any circumstances. Give him come worse cases, the guy just through his charm and flattering wittiness will sway you off your feet. Joining him in this extravaganza is a war-veteran doctor, returned from Afghanistan, John Watson. The two happen to meet by chance and John later puts up with Sherlock at 221B Baker Street.
Sooner John realizes and embraces the guy Sherlock is and finds himself deeper and deeper involved in Sherlock’s most twisted and complex cases. Next, we know is that it takes two to tango, and that is where the journey of Sherlock and Watson picks. The duos take charge of most classified and convoluted cases of crime, impossible to crack by anybody else.
We’re glad that everybody’s favourite Sherlock is returning and the release date is out (tap on link below). Benedict Cumberbatch will continue to play Sherlock. However, Martin’s unwillingness and disinterest to reprise the role of John Watson kind of takes a slice of the excitement away. Any which way, it will be interesting to find out who will be now replacing Martin Freeman as John Watson.
