Bjorn’s death in season 6 of Vikings might not even be real. Here’s looking at what the series finale has revealed.
When the midseason finale of Vikings season 6 ended with the apparent death of its protagonist Bjorn at the hands of his own brother Ivar, fans were shook and quickly took to the internet to analyse what the death means. While fans were busy looking into what course the story could take, now that Bjorn was dead, a theory soon emerged that Bjorn’s death wasn’t even real in the first place.
Highlights:
- Vikings season 6: The story so far, and what lies ahead
- The death of Bjorn was a dream
- When will Vikings season 6 part 2 release?
Vikings is based on the sagas of the Viking Ragnar Lothbrok and his journeys along with his other brothers. With the progress of the story, the focus shifted to Ragnar’s sons Ivar and Bjorn, and followed their travels and lives.
Originally created as a miniseries, ‘Vikings’ gained such acclaim that it was promptly renewed for a second season.

Vikings season 6: The story so far, and what lies ahead
Season 6 has been split into two parts, with part 1 already released on Netflix and consisting of 10 episodes. In the final episode of season 6 part 1, called The Best Laid Plans, there was a heavy showdown between two parties, the Rus that was led by Ivar, and the Vikings, which was led by Bjorn.

Scenes of the battle were intertwined with a conversation that takes place between the two brothers on a beach. What caught viewers totally unawares, was when Ivar stabs Bjorn mid-battle, and abandons him to die.
Now that this has come bang in the middle of the last season, what is to happen in the story going forwards? The death of Bjorn throws everything off course…unless, his death isn’t real in the first place.
The death of Bjorn was a dream
Consider the way he is attacked. Ivar comes at him suddenly, and the attack isn’t shown to us in a synchronised way. This could point to the possibility that perhaps Bjorn was only dreaming and imagining various outcomes of the battle, and his death at the hands of his brother was just one among them.

Another thing to note is that right after the stabbing, the scene shifts back to the brothers’ conversation, where each tells the other that he will emerge victorious. So the stabbing could possibly be Ivar imagining how he would defeat Bjorn.
When Will part 2 release?
It seems that the cliff-hanger will remain unanswered for a long time. There is no official release date for Vikings season 6 part 2 yet, but everything points to a part 2 coming out late in 2020. All 10 episodes of Vikings season 6 part 1 were released by February 2020, and since the show has set a precedent about the pattern of releasing its previous seasons, it does seem like the second part will arrive in late-2020.
Season 6 is also supposed to be the final season of Vikings, so there is a lot of anticipation about a fitting end to this saga. All in all, whenever that happens, it’s bound to be at an epic scale.
