Hope Mikaelson will return with Legacies Season 3 amidst the pandemic, but not so soon because the pandemic has halted the shooting.
CW had renewed Legacies for season 3 way back, but the pandemic has delayed our entry into the third year of Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. It is unlikely that season 3 will air like usual in the fall. Check out the new release dates for the third season of Legacies as hinted by CW.

Legacies Season 3 gets delayed
When Vampire Diaries expanded its universe with The Originals and Legacies, no one expected that the spinoff will weave the same magic that once Damon, Elena, and Stephen’s trio did.
But, when the creators tossed everything they could think of- vampires, witches, and werewolves in the Salvatore School, Mystic falls on Legacies, it attracted niche audiences as well as the newer ones who were ready to taste some blood.
As expected, Legacies received a green signal from the CW network for the third instalment. However, everything came to a halt due to the lockdown situation. Like other shows, Legacies had to pack up its second season before the stipulated time. The last episode that was aired is now considered the “accidental finale” by the creator Julie Plec.

It seems like the remaining unaired parts of the second season will be merged with the third season. Any plotlines that were planned for season 2 will be shifted to season 3 of Legacies.

Will Legacies reunite Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder?
Rumours are swirling that Legacies will reunite the hottest couple on TV- Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder who played Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore respectively on Vampire Diaries. CW is planning to bring together the former on-screen and off-screen couples to attract more viewers to the network through Legacies. This is not impossible as Nina had mentioned that she and Ian are “friends”.
Besides Nina and Ian, Legacies will also see the return of the same cast in the third season which includes:
- Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson (The Originals)
- Aria Shahghasemi as Landon Kirby (The Originals)
- Kaylee Bryant as Josie Saltzman (The Vampire Diaries)
- Jenny Boyd as Lizzie Saltzman (The Vampire Diaries)
- Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman (The Vampire Diaries)
Many fans also questioned whether members from the cast of The Originals (specifically Caroline and Bonnie) will do a guest appearance on Legacies. The answer of Julie Plec on Twitter makes us hope that original characters like Caroline, Bonnie, or even Mikael could appear in Legacies, maybe on season 3.

New release date for Legacies Season 3
CW has hinted that Season 3 will face a delay in the release, but the delay won’t be long. We will be able to see the premiere of ‘The Legacies’ before the end of the fall and before the end of the year 2020.
Going by the hint from CW, Legacies may air its first episode of season 3 by mid-December. Since 2020 has been a ruthless year, we are hoping that it ends on an optimistic note.
