‘Cobra Kai’: A martial arts nostalgia-fest
The show is set 34 years after the original Karate Kid film and is told from the perspective of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). He decides to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo and finds himself at odds with his childhood nemesis Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). Johnny saves a teenager, who is also his neighbour, Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), from a bunch of bullies using the karate skills he has honed over the years and becomes a mentor to the boy just like Mr. Miyagi was to Daniel in the original movie. ‘Cobra Kai’ chronicles the journey of these characters along with the other students of the dojo that are portrayed by Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, and Peyton List.

‘Cobra Kai’ stands amongst the most viewed digital shows worldwide. With its third season, the show has now entered Netflix‘s elite list of shows. Its ratings and success are unprecedented and are one of the few shows on the OTT platform that have trended in over 10 countries.
Cobra Kai Season 4 renewal and future plans
Season 3 had the most unlikely alliance as Johnny and Daniel came together to fight the villains. Miguel recovered completely and his romance with Samantha LaRusso seems a lot more of a possibility now. The new season was filled with action scenes, humour, drama, and a climax that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The show has already been renewed for season 4 which will premiere in 2022.
The end has been decided!
Now that the makers of the series have their work cut out for them while they prepare for season 4, they have revealed a very interesting fact which is that they’ve already decided how to end the series. ‘Cobra Kai’ showrunner Josh Heald recently expressed,
“We have an endgame in our heads. We’ve had one for quite some time, and it’s not in season 4. It’s well beyond that. In our minds, we have seasons’ worth of story that is necessary to tell before we get to that endgame. That will be a discussion going forward with our new partners at Netflix. Can we write to that endgame? Can we know that it’s coming? That’s not always the case with television and we respect that. For now, we’re continuing to write at the same speed and with the same path that we set out with from the beginning”.
Does this mean the show is ending? No. The show is one of the most successful shows on Netflix which is why the streaming service has no intention of ending it anytime soon!
