The actress actually dated Eugene Levy for some time, but the couple split up.
Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy’s relationship took the reverse romantic route: they went from being lovers first, to friends later. The lead couple in the Emmy-awarding winning show ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ used to, once upon a time, be a couple in real life too. In ‘Schitt’s Creek’, O’Hara and Levy play super-rich married couple Moira and Johnny Rose, who are duped by their employee of basically all their money, and end up living in a motel along with their adult children, Alexis and David.

The onscreen couple were a couple in real life too
O’Hara revealed that she and Levy used to date during an appearance on the show ‘Watch What Happens Live’, where she was present along with Levy, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy who play David and Alexis.
The actors met at the famous improv school, The Second City, in Toronto, where they both studied their craft. “So, everybody at Second City theatre tried to date everybody“, said O’Hara.
“’Like: ‘He makes me laugh. I should go out with him’ … So, we did maybe one or two dates.”
However, the fling didn’t end up blossoming into real romance and the two broke up.
The two value their decades-long friendship
Levy went on to marry screenwriter Deborah Divine and O’Hara wedded production designer/art director Bo Welch. But one wonders, did the actress ever regret not trying to work things out with Levy?

On the contrary, she positively seems thankful that they split up!
“I’m so glad it worked out that way”, confesses the seasoned actress.
“We probably wouldn’t be working together if we’d gone longer on the dating.”
In fact, Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara staying friends has resulted in a lot of good stuff together. The duo went on to perform on Second City Television, a Canadian sketch comedy show. They also starred in a few mockumentaries including ‘Best in Show’ and ‘For Your Consideration’.
The decision to remain, friends, has meant that the two have come to honour and respect each other’s creative opinions — something that might have been difficult had they remained in romantic a relationship. While some fans might bemoan the popular onscreen couple’s relationship not translating into reality, the actors themselves are clearly more than happy about it!
