‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ has found itself in a controversial mess which is not of its own doing. Amid cancellation rumours, season 8 of the show will be back and will focus on Jake and Amy’s relationship. Read on to know more.
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 7 premiered in February 2020 and ended in April. For some fans, the show’s seventh season was a welcome escape during the COVID-19 lockdown. But sentiments have changed in recent weeks due to a cultural reassessment of police practices in the United States.

Cop-shows have been facing cancellation rumours, and fans of the show have been worried and if there is a way out of this, it has to be a hard one.
Given that the ratings of the show have been consistently high for the past few seasons, there is no doubt that the show will continue. But aside from criticism, what will the series’ season 8 be about and who will return?
Season 8: Jake and Amy’s paradise in trouble
Jake and Amy have been a smooth-sailing couple with a seemingly perfect marriage on the show. The pair started as an office-romance, went on to get married, have a kid, and remain as strong as ever. Well, all that is about to change in season 8 of the show.
Apparently, with 7 seasons underway, writers of the show wanted something different in season 8, along with the usual comedy. Now that Jake has become a father, it will stir a lot of things in the show’s premise.

Viewers can expect a significant character change for Jake as he deals with fatherhood and tries not to disappoint Amy. Not only will that lead to problems between Jake and Amy, but it is also going to give fans a different look into their relationship.
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’: Renewal status for season 8
NBC greenlit ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 8 in November 2019, a little over three months before season 7 premiered. The decision to renew it made sense as the show has a dedicated fan base which rallied behind the show when Fox cancelled it after 5 seasons.
For the last couple of years, the show has been premiering on NBC in the January or February schedule. But owing to the coronavirus pandemic, it’d be better not to expect the show to premiere so soon.
Season 8, under normal circumstances, would have hit our screens by February 2021, but don’t be surprised if you have to wait a couple of extra months for the premiere.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’: The who and what till now
Andy Samberg will be reprising his role as Jake Peralta, with Andre Braugher playing his boss Captain Holt. Joe Lo Truglio will also be returning as Charles Boyle and Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago.
We also expect to see Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), neurotic desk sergeant Terry (Terry Crews), and the lovable losers Hitchcock and Scully (Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller) in season 8.
Sadly, Chelsea Peretti most likely won’t return to play fan-favourite Gina Linetti as she left the show during season 6 and has only returned for the odd guest appearances. Hopefully, we haven’t seen the last of Linetti.
The series also has a history of guest stars appearing in all of the seasons, and we should expect nothing less from season 8. Stars such as Pete Davidson, Eva Longoria, Nasim Pedrad, Kid Cudi, Jenny Slate, Bill Hader, and Adam Sandler who starred as himself have all appeared in different seasons of the show.
Here is hoping a speedy, fast, and controversy-free recovery for ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 8. Do you think Jake will be a stellar dad? Who should guest-star next in the show? Let us know in the comments section below!
