Arrow up for yet another spinoff?
Oliver Queen is dead forever and there is no way he is coming back. CW’s hit series Arrow ended with season 8. Season 9 for Arrow is off the table. But the penultimate episode of season 8 has brought new hope for Arrowverse fans who can’t get over the fact that the show has ended. Episode 9 of season 8, titled, Green arrow and the Canaries serves as the backdoor pilot for yet another spinoff in Arrow Franchise.

Big shoes to fill for Mia queen
Mia green (Katherine McNamara), daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, has shown enough potential in season 8. A mix of Oliver’s strength and Felicity’s wit makes her all the more irresistible. Those who are keeping up with the series know that the baton is passed to Mia now. But she won’t be alone. The two Black Canaries, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), are leading the spin-off together with Mia. They will assist her in saving Star-City, set in 2040, from danger. No doubt, Mia has big shoes to fill after Oliver sacrificed his life to save the Earth from Crisis, she will live up to her father’s legacy.

What happened in Green Arrow and the Canaries episode?
Back in Star City, 2040, Mia Queen is happy and content with her life, only to be shocked when Laurel and Dinah suddenly show up. Bianca, who is related to Mia is kidnapped and the canaries want Mia to help them find her. Mia is reluctant initially but when her pre-crisis memory is restored, she suits up to take the mantle of Green Arrow ahead. She attends Oliver’s funeral alongside her mother Felicity Smoak. Dinah decides to set up a Canary network. The episode marks the teaming up of three women -Green Arrow and the Canaries to save the city from future dangers.

Woman squad set to save star city in 2040
Women Squad of Green Arrow and the Canaries is a refreshing addition in the Arrow Franchise famed for averting multiple crises in Star City. Post the Crossover event, Mia has memories of past and future lives, which makes her character way more interesting. The spin-off will primarily focus on Star City, 2040 which has rebooted after the crisis on infinite Earths. The spinoff will revolve around canaries and Green Arrow taking up challenges in 2040. Newer enemies await them and the possibility of some more entrants from previous life can’t be denied. Spinoff will solve the mysteries that left us on a cliffhanger in season 8 and will finally give the Canaries much-needed screen space.

Black Canaries to get their long overdue in next spinoff
Laurel Lance is not new to Arrow. She starting as a vamp and took 3 seasons of Arrow to redeem herself as the new Black Canary. Her relation with Oliver will make it even more interesting when she teams up with Mia in the spinoff. Dinah Drake’s history as Black canary and SCPD’s Police captain is erased. Her sudden appearance in 2040 is intriguing and provides enough food for her story to develop in the spin-off.
Throughout 8 seasons, Arrow has not fully realised the potential of both Laurel and Drake. Next spinoff will give both the canaries they long-overdue credit.
No announcement has been made regarding filming and release of Green Arrow and the Canaries spinoff. Big jump in viewership of Green arrow and the Canaries episode proves that fans really want to watch the women take over Star City. We hope CW is listening and make an official announcement very soon.
