Set in the days before the apocalypse, the six-episode adaptation of Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, a novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, has regaled fans through its first season. So, will there be more.
Good Omens has the perfect recipe for a fantasy thriller — it is in equal parts a quirky comedy and an apocalyptic adventure.

Executively produced by Neil Gaiman, the show premiered in 2019 on Amazon Prime, and starred Michael Sheen as an angel named Aziraphale and David Tennant as a demon named Crowley in the lead.
A look into season 1
Season 1 shows Aziraphale and Crowley come together to save the world from the upcoming apocalypse set by heaven and hell, by tracking the child Antichrist and the Armageddon and preventing them from rising.
The show boasts of an incredible supporting cast including Jack Whitehall, Sam Taylor Buck, Frances McDormand as God, Jon Hammas the Archangel Gabriel, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Satan.
The show was very well-received. It scored a striking 84 percent rating by critics and 91 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it appears that not everyone enjoyed the show and there was a share of negative criticism.
Due to its subject matter, 20,000 Christians signed a petition asking for the series to be cancelled. But the most ironical of it all, the petition was addressed to Netflix instead of Amazon Prime.
According to Screen Rant, the petition claimed that Good Omens is “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable“, adding that it “mock’s God’s wisdom“, and, on that same note, God is “voiced by a woman“. Gaiman took to the Twitter to express his sarcasm and wrote:
Netflix’s official account replied by saying:
It surely makes for a good laugh.
Good Omens lockdown special
Amidst the lockdown, a call takes place between the demon and the angel, catching up on what they are doing in isolation. Yes, you read it right. The show’s co-writer, Pratchett, Tennant and Sheen have reprised their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley respectively, in a lockdown special episode of Good Omens. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original publication of Good Omens, the video was released. Watch it here.
Will there be a season 2?
Though Good Omens was supposed to be a limited series, the final episode left plenty of possibilities open. Neil Gaiman has always been very clear on his thoughts about the show. According to Bustle, Gaiman has always been pretty sure that the show doesn’t intend to return. He mentioned that the second installment of the show isn’t in the works and that isn’t to change anytime soon.
“The lovely thing about Good Omens is it has a beginning, a middle, and an end,” Gaiman said, according to Radio Times. “It’s brilliant. It finishes. You have six episodes and we’re done. We won’t try to build in all these things to try to let it continue indefinitely.” But again, who knows what the future holds?”
In an interview with the Radio Times, he said, “Terry and I also plotted a sequel to Good Omens that we never did. And having come up with that plot, we know that if people love this enough and if the time and the will are there, we could absolutely go back and do a lot more.”
This at least confirms that he is open to making a comeback.
However, in an exclusive with The Digital Spy, Gaiman revealed the big hurdle that is standing in the way of the second season. He said, “The problem with doing the second novel immediately after the first is that they’re too similar, which I suppose would mean that if we did Good Omens, I would have to do three seasons. I’d have to do another two seasons, rather than just one. It’s rather daunting. I have novels to write, and so forth.”
According to the producer, the only thing holding up the season is his own schedule considering that he is balancing fatherhood with his books, comics and the other series American Gods. But STARZ, that airs American Gods, made the 450 page novel work out for about 3 seasons.
Good Omens, being the similar length, can we expect something similar in store for the show? Let us know your thoughts below.
