Scroll down to know “the two big twists” and how Al Pacino will return to Amazon’s Hunters season 2. The article contains spoilers so tread with care.
Two twists in the finale that changed the course for Amazon’s Hunters season 2
Twist no 1: The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Meyer Offerman, played by Al Pacino serves as the long lost Godfather to Jonah after his Grandmother’s sudden death. He is the ringmaster of The Hunt that hunts down Hitler’s acolytes who escaped from the scene and are masquerading as God-fearing Americans.
Throughout the series, Jonah grapples between good and evil route of justice, taking cues from his vision of comic superheroes. Meyer displays his immense disappointment when Jonah couldn’t kill Evil Nazi Travis Leich. Jonah decides to prove his worth and presents to Meyer his most abominable Nazi- The Wolf.
But instead of singing the Kaddish prayer (that Ruth’s letter mentioned), Meyer kills him unceremoniously, shocking Jonah. And then, he comes to a startling revelation- Meyer is the Wolf. He killed the real Meyer Offerman and did plastic surgery to assume Offerman’s identity. The Wolf (Al Pacino) admits he was a Nazi and disguised as a Jew all through. Killing Nazis was his penance for the brutality he unleashed during the Holocaust.
Jonah in a fit of rage ultimately kills The Wolf forbidding him to perform penance for who he was.
Twist no 2: The führer lives!
After the big revelation, finale flashes an old man in Argentina maintaining the most notorious mustache. The Colonel says to the old man in German, “time to eat, Adolf”, to which he replies, “I’m hungry, Eva, darling”. The usual husband-wife conversation just gets dreadful when we focus on the names. Yes, Adolf Hitler is alive all through and so is his wife Eva Braun. In the real world, Hitler and Braun died of suicide in 1945. Be ready for the most ghoulish rumor of World War 2 turning true on Amazon Hunters season 2.
Can Jonah manage to hunt Hitler guided by his comic superheroes?
How Hunters mocked Holocaust suffering by exaggerating Jewsploitation
The series has been accused of unnecessarily fictionalizing the Holocaust and exaggerating it to an extent that it becomes pulpy fiction drama. Auschwitz memorial criticized the makers for inventing the fake game of human chess and dangerously spicing up the Holocaust and “Jewsploitation”.
The course ahead- Why Al Pacino is returning in Amazon’s Hunters season 2
The Fuhrer lives and so does The Wolf
Jonah has killed The Wolf forbidding him the opportunity of performing penance. By doing this he has tainted the moral robe he’s been wearing all through the season. Jonah’s Marvel version of heroic justice gets challenged in the finale. The idea of good winning over bad is nothing but fantasy.
And now that Adolf Hitler is alive and orchestrating Fourth Reich, Jonas needs someone as badass as The Wolf to guide him on his mission. Superheroes, this time, won’t be enough. We can’t expect a Marvel like comical hunting for the viciously eccentric Adolf Hitler.
The torch is passed to Jonas and Meyer (The Wolf/ Al Pacino) is certainly dead. But does this end the run for Al Pacino in Hunters season 2? Probably not. Al Pacino might return as a ghost just like his fellow, Ruth (grandmother of Jonah) to guide him in hunting down hiding Nazis. In season 1, the dead Ruth beckons Jonah in his mission in the form of visions. Similarly, Al Pacino can return in Hunters season 2. After all, there are a lot of lessons to be learned and comic book interpretation of justice is not enough, especially when Hitler is alive.
