Now that ‘Legacies’ Season 3 is to release soon, here’s taking a look at the characters most likely to reprise their roles from the original show and its first spin-off.
Since ‘Legacies’ is an upfront spin-off of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many of the characters appearing in the original show, as well as its other spin-off ‘The Originals’, also star in it. The shared universe makes all kinds of exciting adventures and crossovers possible, while continuing with the ongoing storyline of the franchise, and makes the fans coming back and wanting more. And that’s exactly what you can expect in ‘Legacies’ Season 3, which has been delayed due to the pandemic, but slated to release soon enough.
Highlights —
- Lizzie and Josie must find a way to escape their own destruction by The Merge
- Klaus Mikaelson is dead. Is there a chance he might return in ‘Legacies’ Season 3?
Julie Plec, the creator of this fantastical universe rife with werewolves, vampires, witches, and hybrids, often indulges fans in having characters from one franchise jump in another show. And we know that not all the characters who are dead stay that way for long, and maybe the new season of ‘Legacies’ could be a chance to bring back a much-loved character to life. But exactly which of these characters from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’ are most likely to return in ‘Legacies’ Season 3? Let’s take a look.

1/5
Hope Mikaelson (‘The Originals’)
This is something like a no-brainer, because as the main character of the show, of course, Hope is going to return in ‘Legacies’ Season 3. The character begins her journey in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ but her storyline gets more interesting in ‘The Originals’, and in ‘Legacies’ the story mainly focuses on her in the lead. As the daughter of Klaus and Hayley, and the descendant of one of the most powerful vampire and werewolf bloodline, Hope does not seem to have an easy road ahead of her.
2/5
Alaric Saltzman (‘The Vampire Diaries’)
We were first introduced to Alaric or “Ric” Saltzman in ‘The Vampire Diaries’, where he was the history teacher at Mystic Falls High School. The character then guest-starred in ‘The Originals’, before having his own story arc in ‘Legacies’ as one of the main characters. As the headmaster of the Salvatore School, a learning institute for students with supernatural abilities where they can learn to control their impulses, Ric plays an important role as a kind of guardian for all the originals from the vampire diaries universe. As such, he is sure to return in ‘Legacies’ Season 3.
3/5
Lizzie and Josie Saltzman (‘The Vampire Diaries’)
As Ric’s daughters, being born on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and featuring in ‘The Originals’ only once in the last season, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman are sure to make a comeback in ‘Legacies’ since they play major roles in the plot. Caroline Forbes gives birth to the twins by the use of a kind of Gemini Coven magic, following the murder of their biological mother Jo Laughlin at the hands of her brother Kai Parker. Now the twins have to figure out a way to escape The Merge, something that is central to the story of ‘Legacies’.
4/5
Caroline Forbes Salvatore (‘The Vampire Diaries’)
The return of Caroline is a big maybe in the third season of the show. She has been mentioned on and off in the show, and even guest-starred in ‘The Originals’. From all the characters, Caroline arguably has the most important influence in each series. She begins as a human in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ but is then transformed into a vampire by Katherine Pierce.
In ‘The Originals’ she had a significant role as well, being an influence over Klaus often pointing out his mistakes from him fearlessly. Moreover, Klaus would also listen to her. In this show, however, she’s only referenced as Lizzie and Josie’s mother who is researching for a way to successfully prevent the Gemini Coven merge.
5/5
Klaus Mikaelson (‘The Originals’)
We are likely stretching it here, but since the franchise isn’t afraid of bringing characters back from the dead we thought it would be a good idea if the return of Klaus could be possible. In ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Klaus was known as a fearful creature that could appear and kill his target any minute. But in ‘The Originals’ we saw him trying to be a good father to his daughter Hope, looking out for her and keeping her from harm’s way. And towards the end of the show in the season finale, he actually steps in to save his daughter’s life — by giving his own life in return, thus completing his redemption arc.
