Is Netflix all set to bring back its teen drama, Insatiable for another season?
Netflix’s 2018 dark comedy-drama, Insatiable was based on Jeff Chu’s 2014 New York Times article called The Pageant King of Alabama. Despite opening to bad reviews, the teen drama found a loyal fan base in its target audience of young adults and gave its leading lady, Debby Ryan a second chance at fame. The series was cancelled after two seasons in February 2020 leaving a lot of questions unanswered. So, will the OTT platform bring Insatiable back for a season 3 to give fans the closure they need?
Highlights :
- Insatiable : dark, twisted and facetious

Insatiable : dark, twisted and facetious
Created by Lauren Gussis, Insatiable followed teenager Patty Bladell (Debby Ryan), an overweight student who was constantly bullied by other kids at school. After going on an drastic liquid diet she lost a lot of weight and returned to school to take revenge from anyone who had ever made her feel bad about herself.
The series was a twisted and facetious take on body shaming, body image issues and the society’s obsession with beauty. The series also starred Dallas Roberts, Christopher Gorham, Sarah Colonna, Erinn Westbrook, Kimmy Shields, Michael Provost, Irene Choi and Alyssa Milano.
The series opened in the midst of a lot of controversy with people accusing it of propagating body-shaming. A petition for the termination of the show was signed by over 230,000 people. However, after giving multiple clarifications, Netflix premiered the series in 2018. It mostly received negative reviews from critics but found faithful teen fans during its run of two seasons.

Season 2 : Where did it end?
On October 11th, 2019, Netflix released the second season of the controversial drama. It was quite a whirlwind that ended on a cliffhanger. It saw Bob Armstrong (Dallas Roberts) get framed for murders actually committed by Regina Sinclair (Arden Myrin). The series also did not address who Coralee’s baby daddy was.
Confirming that Netflix had pulled the plug on the series, actress Alyssa Milano took to her Twitter handle to express her sadness over the cancellation and even teased fans that they would never get to know about the identity of the baby daddy in question.
Apparently, the series did not achieve the minimum viewership required for renewal. Fans have been unimpressed with this decision of Netflix and have been expressing their displeasure on social media. So, has Netflix finally given in and renewed the series for a season 3?
Has season 3 been given the go-ahead?
Unfortunately, that is not the case. Netflix is standing by its decision of terminating the series and has no plans of bringing back the teen drama.
Before the news of cancellation came, show-runner Gussis was planning on Patty’s redemption in season 3. She was quoted saying, “[She is] somebody who has the insatiability, that the hole is never enough and no matter what you’re doing to reach outside to fill that hole…it’s never gonna get filled.”
She continued,
“I feel like it’s not cut and dry in so far as that she is a bad person and likes killing and she’s irredeemable. To me, it’s more about exploring the shadow parts of one’s self and how low can somebody go and still come back toward the light?”
Season 3 would have revealed the identity of Coralee’s baby daddy and also would have worked on the story involving Bob’s wrongful arrest. It might also have exposed Patty’s ugly side and the murders she had committed.
Unfortunately a season 3 will not be seeing the light of day and this seems to be it for the series. However, let us hope that Netflix does eventually reveal answers to some pending questions through its social media handle in the near future.
