Netflix original, You is possibly one of the scariest psychological-thriller series ever you’ve watched. The first season was based on a 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes by the same name.
You is based on the life of Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley), New York bookstore manager and a serial killer who falls in love with a customer, Guinevere Beck (played by Elizabeth Lail). Joe is a psychopath who is at the same time an extreme and obsessive lover. Season two of You is on air and showed Joe in scarier than never before. Here are the scariest moments from You that will give you nightmares.

#1 When Joe kills Beck’s boyfriend
By the first episode of You season 1, Joe has gathered enough information about Beck. Previously, she had feelings for a guy named Benji and would hook up with him often. Unfortunately, Benji doesn’t want any commitments and he hurts Beck badly. Joe realises that he needs to get him out of Beck’s life so that he has no competition. And a accomplish this at a time when Joe barely knows Beck.
So, of course, without a second thought, he decides to kill Benji. He lures Benji into the basement of his bookstore by pretending to be a reporter. Following which he locks Benji in the mezzanine floor and tortures him for days. Eventually, Benji dies out of a peanut oil reaction which Joe had mixed in his drink.
#2 What happened with Candace?
By the end of season 1, we know that Joe is an extremely troubled man and an intense lover and stalker with murderous instincts. and he is fully capable to harm Beck the same way he did with his previous girlfriend, Candace. In season 1 what happened with Candace wasn’t revealed and the story eneded on a cliffhanger. However, in Season 2, Candace surfaces alive.
Well, apparently Joe had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, Candace, tied her up and choked her to death. He later drives his car out of the woods to recreate a replica of the romantic date they had before. He even got a picnic basket and explained to her that he had to tie her up so that they could talk in peace. However, if that wasn’t already cringe-worthy, he knocks her out when she attempts to get away and buries her alive, hoping she is dead.
#3 Joe murdered Jasper
Well, Joe finds himself in trouble again after taking Will’s (a hacker who deals with unsavoury clients as part of his job and whose identity Joe briefly reveals) identity because a man named Jasper is looking for the original Will who owes him $50,000. While trying to figure out how to pay him back, he calls Jasper to his storage unit and kills him.
Only killing is not enough for Joe, he ends up cutting his body in parts in a very brutal manner that the viewers were unfortunately privy to. That one scene where Joe uses his kitchen to grind Jasper’s body part is not one we’re soon to forget.
#4 Kidnapping Will to steal his identity
At the beginning of You Season 2, Joe leaves New York because his ex-girlfriend, Candace has found out who he really is. He changes his name into Will and now lives a brand new life in Los Angeles.

However, by the end of the episode, there was an unexpected twist – Joe is back into his old ways. He builts a similar plexiglass prison in a storage container where he had kept the real Will in order to use his identity.
#5 Killed Peach (Beck’s best friend)
Joe did not really like Beck’s best friend, Peach as she quickly realizes that there is something off about Joe. When some of Beck’s personal belongings begin to disappear, Peach finds out that Joe is the culprit.
And so, during one of Peach’s regular jog at Central Park, Joe smashes her skull from behind leaving her to die in her own pool of blood. To Joe’s utter disappointment peach is alive.
#6 When Beck discovers Joe’s truth
One of the scariest moment in You Season 1 is when Beck finds a hidden box in Joe’s apartment. It was a collection of all the things that Joe had been preserving since he began stalking Beck. She finds her underwears, her old phone, Benji’s teeth and other objects that she has previously lost.
Suddenly, Beck realises that peach (Beck’s best friend) was right about Joe.
#7 When Joe locked Beck in the basement
That was such a scary moment in the Netflix series You when Joe returns and finds Beck has unearthed all his secrets. Sooner he realises that he has no other option left but to lock her in the basement. On top of it all, he is afraid of losing her so he calmly tries to give an explanation to all his actions.
And at that moment Beck tries to defend her life by smartly stabbing Joe with a typewriter key. She tries to escape but however fails as Joe is one step ahead of her and he had hidden a spare key inside the book store so that Beck couldn’t escape the room. In the final scene, we notice Beck is dead.
