Here are five reasons that lead us to believe that Otis from Sex Education could be bisexual.
Season 2 of Netflix’s British-comedy drama series released on 15th January. But there are more than one reasons that make us believe that Otis might be bisexual.
The story of Sex Education is told primarily through the lens of sixteen-year-old Otis Milburn. Otis runs a sex clinic along with his smart and edgy best friend Maeve Wiley. Milburn upon discovering his gift of providing sex and relationship therapy starts advising his fellow students at Moordale Secondary.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Otis’s sex-positive upbringing at home
- When Otis fakes his own masturbation
- Otis is a sexually awkward and confused teen
But because Otis grew up in one of the most sex-optimistic environment, he has picked up a specific way of understanding sex and the relationship dynamics that often underpin it. This is as a result of spending a lot of his life eavesdropping to his mother’s conversations and consultations.
Milburn knows how to talk it when it comes to sex and love, even when he personally struggles with the implementation part of it. Otis is portrayed by Asa Butterfield in Netflix’s Sex Education.
Otis is shy and awkward
Otis may be a great sex expert but it need not necessarily imply that he is great at sex. On the downside, Otis Milburn is an awkward teenager who finds it difficult to cope with his mother’s occupation. Gillian Anderson as Dr. Jean F. Milburn plays Otis’s mother and a renowned sex therapist in the show.
Her unending interference in her son’s personal and sexual life has him irked most of the time. She is a divorcee but finds herself regularly engaging in one-night stands but remains non-committal. Unlike his mother, Otis is not as open about sex and shares an awkward vibe whenever his mother confronts him.

Milburn is 16 and he is highly ashamed rather embarrassed by the fact that he can’t masturbate. Students his age are already having sex. Meanwhile, Otis who lives with his mother is frequently questioned by her if he’s masturbated.
Now, under pressure from his mom, Otis tries to masturbate but fails. He leaves a tissue paper covered with moisturizer tossed in the bin like a piece of evidence for his mother to see.

Bestfriend is gay
Otis’s business partner-cum-best friend at school is Eric Effiong. Eric is gay and the only person Otis confides into regarding his personal problems. Having spent so much time with his best friend in and outside of school, Otis starts to grow a unique bond with him, which is often questionable.

Mother a sex therapist
Jean F Milburn, Otis’s mother is the kind of woman who can say ‘man milk’ without having it sound crass. And the kind of mother that can casually slip in terms like ‘scrotal anxiety’ into an ordinary conversation with her son.
She’s a single mother who is all at once savage, compassionate, intelligent, and a bit overbearing. Otis has been a victim of an overexposed sex environment since his childhood. Therefore he is sexually an awkward person.

Sexually confused
Milburn is confused about his sexual orientation. Unlike most teens that have it figured by his age, Otis still finds himself struggling to discover his sexuality. He is a confused boy with a lot of questions in his head and unable to speak about it. He is shy and introvert but finds himself at ease only with his gay best friend Eric Effiong.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Sex Education releases in less than two days and we can’t wait to find out more about Otis’s gay sexual orientation. Asa Butterfield (Otis) and Gillian Anderson (Jean) will reprise their roles, alongside Ncuti Gatwa, who plays Eric.
