Amazon Prime has loads of such amazing shows to offer. Here is a look at the 10 shows to watch this month.
Unpredictable, weird and sexy, Fleabag is hard to categorise. It is a clever comedy at times, but underneath it all, the theme is sadness. The show follows, Fleabag, a neurotic woman, juggling a failing business and disastrous personal life. A compulsive liar who is selfish at times, Fleabag lives up to her name. Oh and she keeps breaking the fourth wall!
The series follows an Angel and a Demon as their comfortable lives on Earth are threatened by the impending Apocalypse. The pair must team up to prevent the ascension of the Antichrist and a war between heaven and hell. Like the book that inspired it, the series is packed with sharp humour around mankind’s history with a lot of biblical references.
The Night Manager
Hugh Laurie is a big time criminal and arms dealer with a ruthless way of doing business. Tom Hiddleston, the night manager at a luxury hotel, is recruited to spy on the guy and infiltrate his inner circle. He often finds himself in tricky situations and cunningly lies, cheats, and steals his way out. The two accomplished actors make the show marvelous using their craft.
John Krasinski’s return to television cannot be more different from his ‘The Office’ days. He plays famed CIA analyst Jack Ryan in this series that explores the character’s beginnings as an up-and-coming agent whose confidence in his abilities often leads to him clashing with higher-ups.
Starting a comedy series with death of a loved one does not seem like the best idea, but One Mississippi isn’t your conventional comedy. Still reeling from breast cancer, Tig returns to her hometown in Mississippi to witness her mother being taken off life support, and decides to stay and reconnect with her stepfather and brother. The show balances grief and joy in equal measure, examining the long, up-and-down process of trauma and recovery.
Giovanni Ribisi (Pheobe’s brother from friends) plays the role of a con man who has recently been released from prison. In order to hide from a crime boss played by Bryan Cranston (Heisenberg from Breaking Bad), he assumes the identity of his former cellmate, Pete Murphy. The show is carefully written and is cleverly presented with the help of its ensemble cast.
Julia Roberts doing a TV series? Homecoming is the story of Heidi Bergman, a caseworker at a facility that helps soldiers transition back to civilian life but in reality they are using an experimental drug to wipe out PTSD. She leaves the facility and starts a new life. Years later, the Department of Defense questions why she left, which makes Heidi realize that there’s a whole other story than what she’s been telling herself.
Imagine a future in which humans have colonized every part of the solar system. The Expanse turns that hypothetical future into a powerhouse sci-fi drama. The series is set 200 years from now, and centers on a conspiracy that threatens to wipe out the human race. Underneath all the Sci-fi, The Expanse is a riveting drama that tackles the nuances of human conflict.
Based on the 2011 movie of the same name, Hanna is the story of an extraordinary girl who has been raised in the forest. The series is a high-concept thriller as well as a coming-of-age drama, that follows a girl on her journey as she tries to unearth the truth behind who she is.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
It is a fast-paced, wit-infused drama about a 1950s housewife, with a hidden talent for stand-up. The show follows Midge Maisel, a Jewish housewife whose husband leaves her. Trying to break out on her own in the comedy world, she begins a journey that takes her from her comfortable life on the Upper West Side through the cafes and nightclubs as she makes her way through the city’s comedy industry.
