The theatrical Justice League was rated PG 13 so what makes Zack Snyder’s Cut r rated
The countdown for Zack Snyder’s Justice League has begun. The fandom can’t wait and the hype is real. The remixed cut of the 2017 Justice League is set to hit the HBO Max platform in March 2021. While Snyder’s cut is already four hours long with additional photography and characters it also rated R on the streaming. Whilst the theatrical cut was PG 13, streaming gives more in lieu of the storytelling. This does not come as a shock as the director was expecting his cut to be R-rated.
Why The R Rating?
The free reign of HBO Max further enabled Snyder to present an edgier, harder version of Justice League. The director is known for his ‘dark,’ ‘gory’ takes and twisted plot points. He told EW in December last year, “Here’s one piece of information nobody knows: The movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R — that’s one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure.”
Nonetheless, his gut was right and MPAA did give Zack Snyder’s Justice League an R rating. Snyder predicted it should be for profanity and violence. Now we all know Snyder never shies away from either. His previous works such as 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch are a testimony that anything can happen in a Zack Snyder movie. The director is also hell-bent to give fans everything they deserve. His aesthetics coupled with freedom of HBO Max has resulted in the rating and also the darkest superhero movie of our times.

Nonetheless, there are two definite reasons for Zack Snyder’s Justice League to be R Rated viz;
The Profanity
Snyder has admitted Batman will be profane in this movie. Didn’t we all want that? He told EW, “There’s one scene where Batman drops an F-bomb.” So, watch out for that one. Furthermore, Cyborg whose entire character arc is restored by Snyder in the cut is going to speak his mind’.
Per Snyder, “Cyborg is not too happy with what’s going on with his life before he meets the Justice League, and he tends to speak his mind.” While Cyborg’s live-action Booyah’ is much debatable and Snyder never put it in the movie, we’d love to see how he turns out! The beloved character went through much chopping and cutting on the editing floor. The new trailer shows he is definitely a part of post apoklyptic timeline. In trailer 2, we can see him standing behind Batman who s looking at the Joker.

The Violence
Violence and bloodshed are what we seek in Zack Snyder movies. Be it Leonidus kicking the messenger into the well in 300 or its war sequence. For the lovers of dark themes, Snyder’s Justice League has few surprises in stock.
Snyder has expanded his rogue gallery with the addition of Darkseid and DeSaad. The paardemons will be put to good use and the battle sequences look extended in the trailer. Nonetheless, trailer showcase a newly rendered Steppenwolf. And Snyder let out some interesting tidbit about the character. He revealed, “…Steppenwolf is pretty much just hacking people in half. So [the rating would be due to] violence and profanity, probably both.”
