Snyder Cut has an extended Knightmare Sequence – From the Joker to Martian Manhunter here’s what they are up to
The much-awaited Director’s Cut from Zack Snyder is only a few days away and DC fans hope the four-part sequence will be much better than the 2017 version of the Justice League. Over the past couple of months, Snyder has continued to reveal various details of the #SnyderCut on social media in a bid to kindle as much anticipation as possible.
What Is Going To Happen In Snyder Cut’s Knightmare
Snyder’s Justice League will tell a dystopian tale of a brutal attack on Earth by Apokolips leader, Darkseid and his army of parademons. The Man of Steel will be Darkseid’s stooge on Earth due to the Anti-Life Equation, leaving Batman to put together a team – The Justice League – to stop Superman. This sequence of events is popularly known as the Knightmare Sequence and was only partly shown as a nod-off dream Bruce Wayne had in the theatrical version.
However, the Snyder Cut will involve a lot more scenes in the Knightmare sequence and hopefully answer most of the questions that were left unanswered in the 2017 Justice League movie. There have been exciting new cast additions and just recently, the Joker was revealed to be part of the Knightmare Sequence.
While we know that the Knightmare Sequence will feature members of the Justice League as well as Darkseid and his parademons, let’s take a look at some characters to look out for in the Knightmare Sequence
Green Lantern – Ryan Reynolds?
Apart from a brief cameo in the 2017 Justice League version where Steppenwolf was seen hacking down a Green Lantern, Yalan Gur, they haven’t really been talked about much. However, Snyder has always expressed his desire to introduce one of the Green Corps’ human member and a world-ending invasion seems like the perfect invitation.
Lex Luthor – Jesse Eisneberg
In the trailer for the Snyder Cut, Lex Luthor’s voice is heard announcing the death of Superman. This is likely a discussion between Luthor and Steppenwolf, prompting the invasion on Earth. If this plays out, then we can expect to see Luthor feature in much more scenes in the Knightmare Sequence in the Snyder Cut.
Deathstroke – Joe Manganiello
Although he had a lot to do in DC’s Suicide Squad, Deathstroke hasn’t been part of any Justice League events. However, there’s a theory that Lex Luthor hires him to kill the dark knight in a bid to get revenge. Although, it’s not likely the filmmaker would adopt that storyline, the Knightmare Sequence could create an opportunity to pit Deathstroke against Batman or perhaps, Cyborg?
Vulko – Williem Dafoe
The Atlantean was represented very differently in the 2017 theatrical version and Snyder has revealed that his role in the Snyder Cut might be totally altered. In the 2017 version, Vulko served as an advisor to Aquaman, so it’ll be interesting to see what role he plays in ZSJL.
Martian Manhunter – Harry Lenix
There have been reports of a possible cameo appearance by the Martian Manhunter. In the trailer, Martha Kent is seen visiting Lois Lane. However, there is a theory that Martha is in fact the Martian Manhunter who has been disguised all the while, secretly keeping an eye on Superman.
Cyborg – Ray Fisher
Apart from getting a major upgrade, Cyborg will play a huge role in helping Batman figure out the Knightmare Sequence. After the invasion happens, Cyborg helps The Flash figure out the Speed Force so he can run back and warn Batman.
Black Superman – Henry Cavill
Relax. It’s the same Superman, just with a different suit. In Snyder’s Justice League universe, Superman will fall under the Anti-Life equation and thus, have a very different personality. His tyrannical rule over Earth coupled with his allegiance to the “dark side” will make his character feel very new and unpredictable.
The Joker – Jared Leto
Arguably the biggest addition to the cut, Jared Leto’s Joker is set to feature alongside The Batman in the Knightmare Sequence. Since an apocalyptic Earth doesn’t do anyone any good, we might just see the Joker and Batman team up in some bizarre fashion.
Robin aka Dick Grayson
Even though this could be regarded as very speculative, Snyder has previously expressed his wish to explore Robin’s story and how it affects the relationship between Batman and The Joker. With the Joker confirmed to be teaming up with Batman in some sort of way in the Knightmare Sequence, a flashback Robin story might be on the cards.
The four-part film is set to premiere on the HBO Max streaming service on the 18th of March.
