Zack Snyder recently shared his dream to make a movie based on Dark Knight Return comic which is more probable than a Man of Steel movie
It seems that 2020 is all about Zack Snyder. Since the formal resurrection of Zack Snyder’s Justice League as a 4 part series for HBO Max, WB is riding high on the fan buzz. Fans and trade experts have already started contemplating the future of DCEU, and Zack Snyder is in it. As 2021 is coming closer, the suspense around Snyder Cut and Snyder’s future is gaining attention. Snyder recently joined the Nerd Queens Youtube screen (video below) to discuss the upcoming Snyder Cut. During the discussion, the Watchmen director said that he would want to recreate the iconic Dark Knight Returns comic into a movie.

Frank Miller’s iconic Dark Knight Series
In 1986 DC published a 4 part comic-series titled the Dark Knight Returns. In this storyline, Batman is now old and worn out. Set in a dystopian world, Gotham is under attack by a gang called ‘The Mutants.’ Bruce Wayne has to protect Gotham, probably one last time, from not just the mutants but also Two-Face, Joker, and Superman. Yes, a disgruntled Batman faces off against a not-so-aged Superman.
It is said to be one of the most iconic Batman storylines.

It shows the struggles an aged Bruce Wayne is going through. At one point, he is not able to come to terms with the fact that he can no longer be physically Batman. Everything around him is also changing except for the impending danger over Gotham City.
Why will Dark Knight be a better option than Man of Steel 2?
Zack Snyder has been heavily influenced by the Batman in Dark Knight Returns. The armour Bruce wears in Batman vs Superman: The Dawn Of Justice to take on Superman is comic accurate. Even some of the scenes in the movie look like a live-action interpretation from the comic book panels. Even the details such as Kryptonite grenades are deeply influenced by the comic. And mostly Ben Affleck’s Batman follows a similar line to that of Bruce Wayne in DKR comics.
Batfleck has also been Batman for a long time and has been through a lot of personal losses. He has seen it all and is now disillusioned by the world of crime in Gotham city. But even Batfleck is looking to save Gotham, and possibly humanity, for one last time in Dawn Of Justice.
One of the sensible for WB to go ahead with Dark Knight is because Batfleck was widely accepted by fans. There are even rumours that Affleck is teaming up for Justice League 2. Even the fans who did not like BVS and Justice League agreed to the fact that Ben Affleck was the best Batman on the screen till now. Now that Zack Snyder is bringing more of Affleck for his cut of the Justice League, it would be the right time to push on Ben as a middle-aged Batman. There are rumours, thanks to the Flash movie, we might see the communion of Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s Batman together. On the other hand, we also have Robert Pattinson staking his claim on the cowl.
Why Not A Man of Steel 2?
On the other hand, Henry Cavill’s Superman stint is widely under suspicion. Cavill in the past has bygone a Shazam! cameo due to ‘scheduling conflicts.’ Further, while Cavill announced the Snyder Cut along with Zack Snyder during the BvS rewatch during quarantine he is absent from the Justice League reshoots.
Fans are eager to finally see Cavill don the blue suit (black considering ZSJL) again. But there’s nothing but rumours at hand. In a report (video below) after the Snyder Cut announcement Heroic Hollywood scooped that WB believes that Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel can’t lead a stand-alone movie without some major push. The report said,
A stand-alone Superman movie would not be successful at this time. Perhaps once there’s more momentum after playing a supporting role in some successful DC films, there would be more of a chance for a stand-alone film.

Nonetheless, these are also rumours and should be taken with a grain of salt! What we know for sure is Henry Cavill’s Superman stint is still in limbo till Snyder Cut comes out. The only concern Warner Bros. would be having before green-lighting the project would be a total Batman show in DCEU. So many Batman projects can easily cast a black shadow on any character.
After all, who can ever have enough of Batman? But, post the success of Zack Snyder’s JL, it would be amazing to see Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight again.
