Togo’s first look is revealed and the poster shows William Dafoe as Leonhard Seppala.
Willem Dafoe is ready to star in a Disney plus movie ‘Togo’. The movie is about the 1925 serum run to Nome, focusing on the sled dog Togo and his owner Leonhard Seppala. In the story, sled dog Togo helps in preventing an epidemic. Togo transports a life-saving serum through harsh conditions over nearly 700 miles to save the people of Nome, Alaska.
The Disney movie focuses on the true story of an unlikely friendship between sled dog Togo and driver Leonhard Seppala. William Dafoe played the role of Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man movie. About the film, Dafoe said, “It’s a beautiful story of an underdog (no pun intended) and how we can learn from adversity, they will see beautiful nature, a world past, with touching relationships between the characters in a suspenseful adventure story.”
About the Forgotten Hero Hound
The Disney Togo movie’s story revolves around Balto, a sled dog who prevents a diphtheria epidemic in Nome, but this heroic canine did not achieve this feat alone. There were other dogs that faced the same unforgiving weather and terrifying odds and one of them who lead them was Togo. Disney+ is highlighting one of those forgotten hero hounds in the film.
The first sign of the diphtheria epidemic started in the winter of 1925. Seppala joined the serum run and chose Togo, a smaller, older Siberian husky, to lead his team. They carry the precious antitoxin serum cargo, through 50 below zero temperatures, gale-force winds, and whiteouts.
Togo’s Lifestory
In the Disney Togo movie, he was born sickly and small and required special care from Seppala’s wife. As an adult dog, Togo grew to around 48 lbs. But he proved himself with his spirit and tenacity by jumping through a kennel window and running miles back to Seppala after he tried to give him away.
During Seppala’s runs, Togo would follow the teams and lead them off the trail in charges against reindeer. To keep the other dogs on task, Seppala had to put him in a harness, but eventually, Togo took his leadership position by the end of his first run.
The Backup Dog and the real hero
Most people close to the story consider Balto the backup dog, as Togo led Seppala’s sled through the most dangerous territory of the run. To this Seppala is angry as Hollywood wants to do a film that about Balto and the run without any mention of Togo.
The Disney Togo movie also stars Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County), Michael Gaston (The Leftovers), and Christopher Heyerdahl (Damnation). The movie makes us understand what one canine is willing to do to save countless people, including the man he loves most. Togo is set to premiere on Dec. 13 on Disney plus.
Willem Dafoe has received his third Academy Award nomination for a best-supporting actor this year for “The Florida Project”. He previously nominated in the category for “Platoon” and “Shadow of the Vampire.” Let’s see what Dafoe will do in Disney plus movie, Togo.
