Thor was fat, clumsy and a recluse in Avengers: Endgame, so his body type in Love and Thunder depends on how much time has since passed in the MCU and also on the type of diet Hemsworth takes.
Thor: Love and Thunder are on its way and fans are debating about whether the Marvel Studio will keep Thor fat. Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok and will return to the helm for Thor: Love and Thunder gave some clues. Waititi explained that there’s a revealing question at the heart of what otherwise might be a mostly aesthetic detail.
Taika Waititi has completed the script, but one detail that hasn’t been figured out yet is how much time has passed since the events of Avengers: Endgame. “This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel,” Waititi said. “Cause we’re trying to figure out how long, how many months or years, this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?” he added.
Fat Thor in Avengers
Keeping Thor fat was the most shocking part of Avengers: Endgame. It revealed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is totally letting himself go in the five years since half of the universe’s living beings were wiped out by Thanos. The transformation for Thor hasn’t been merely physical, though.
He’s always had his support and audiences have been fond of Chris Hemsworth’s performance as the hammer-wielding Avenger. In Endgame, Thor is initially quietly enraged over his inability to defeat Thanos. Then, he just gets depressed. The mindset is reflected when his character is revealed, after a time jump, with an unkempt beard and a very visible beer gut.
Waititi’s Hint about Fat Thor
Waititi said of Thor’s character, “I think we always want to keep changing it up with Thor. He’s so interesting when he’s changing all the time.”Natalie Portman is also returning in Thor: Love and Thunder which is set to hit the theatres on November 5, 2021. She made a cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame.
In one of the most exciting announcements from this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the Taika Waititi directorial will feature Natalie Portman as the first female Thor. By the time Thor: Love and Thunder hit theaters, two and a half years will have passed in real-time.
The Time Jump in Thor: Love and Thunder
Avengers: Endgame is the only movie where there’s been a significant time jump. The window in which the Thor sequel takes place likely depends on how it fits into the overall timeline of the rest of the new movies coming in Phase Four. If Thor is still fat, he would persist, just as he realized he was still worthy in Avengers: Endgame.
However, Waititi likes when Thor changes. So, having him slim back down a bit will work better for them. Perhaps we’ll find him in the middle of a keto diet or whatever new diet fad is sweeping the nation at this point. We will be very excited either way about how Thor will be seen in the movie.
Moreover, we may see Natalie Portman being the sole fighting Thor and Hemsworth might take a backseat and watch from home. Waititi is out promoting his new movie Jojo Rabbit, which is now playing in select theaters and we praised in our review. The filmmaker is supposedly co-writing and directing another movie before Thor 4 called Next Goal Wins.
