David Ayer’s Suicide Squad cut better known as Ayer Cut’s release is making a lot of noise here’s what’s stopping it
The DC Universe has taken a turn for good since the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. WB seems to be attentive to the fans now. Amidst all of the exciting announcements and invigorating the future of the DCEU, there is another faction germinating that demands David Ayer’s Suicide Squad cut.
Earlier this year, in April, WB & AT&T created history by officially announcing the Snyder Cut. It’s been an unprecedented event that took even the Hollywood analysts by surprise. The naysayers claimed that no such cut exists, and even if it did, it would never see the light of day. But, fans kept on relentlessly demanding to see the original version of Zack’s vision. There is another face to this story. After the successful resurrection of the Snyder Cut, industry insiders feared that this move of WB might open flood gates for fan-driven movements. It turns out they were right. As reported, fans have a new request for WB. This time fans are demanding the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad.

What is Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad?
Call it following a trend or lighting the hope lamp, DC fans have a new wave of positivity in their hearts. It seems that WB is now ready to right their wrongs. To bury the ghosts of their past, WB will have to dig up some graves. Suicide Squad immediately preceded the infamous Dawn of Justice. Whereas, BVS broke down the faction into two parts, one that revered it and the other who disregarded it. David Ayer recently came clean on Twitter and said that after BVS, the studio morphed his ‘soulful drama’ into a ‘comedy.’
Suicide Squad initially garnered news after the release when Jared Leto went on record to express his discontentment. Leto played the role of Joker in Ayer’s Suicide Squad but had a lot of his role lying on the editing table. The theatrical cut received a thrashing from the critics and fans alike. Fans also quickly forgot about Leto’s version of the Joker. Then, in 2020, Jared Leto’s Joker is making a comeback in Snyder’s JL. David Ayer has also been vocal about the existence of his Suicide Cut. He has repeatedly replied to fans on Twitter about their questions related to the original version of SS. He said, “I took the hits like a good soldier when the studio cut hit the streets. It’s who I am. I watched my cut for the first time since it was abandoned. It is fucking amazing. On God. I felt guilty for years like I fucked. Nope. It’s fire. It’s the tone of the Comicon trailer 100%.”
Is it really happening?
In short, it is an uphill task. Snyder Cut was one of the fastest-growing organic fan movement that Hollywood had ever experienced. It was just something that does not, and should not happen, every day. Ayer Cut, on the other hand, cropped up shortly after the official announcement of Snyder Cut. It could only be a coincidence, but for some reason, this movement did not catch much attention. David Ayer has also shared some images of his original version on Twitter, but all of it seems a lot Snyderesque. Recently, when rumours sprouted about the release of the director’s cut Ayer shot them down.
Not that, there is anything wrong with this movement or that it should not go through. But, Snyder Cut is turning out to be a mammoth DCEU property for 2021. The studio is pumping extra funds and extending contracts to make this move a success. Looking at how much AT&T is riding on Snyder cut’s success to catapult HBO Max, it is unlikely that there is going to be an announcement of an Ayer Cut before 2021.
There are a couple of reasons for it to start with WB would prefer to look at the response it gets for Justice League coming out in 2021. Also, James Ginn’s The Suicide Squad is set for August 4, 2021 release. This further leads to confusion in the storyline by fans. While Gunn’s take is completely new the movie stays in the original DCEU canon. So, based on the response to ZSJL and the direction which DCEU takes from there, we can expect an official announcement of the Suicide Squad Ayer Cut’s release.
Ayer told YouTuber Grace Randolph “I don’t mind if my cut is seen in 5 years. I simply want the best version of my work represented. Zack deserves this wonderful wonderful opportunity he’s been given by HBO Max and AT & T — It’s all love.“ Nonetheless, there is no doubt that David Ayer would have worked genuinely on his version of the anti-hero team and that it deserves to be seen by the DC fandom. Even the presence of Leto’s Joker in Snyder’s cut can pave the way for David Ayer’s Cut. However, the release of the Ayer Cut can only be expected once Gunn’s The Suicide Squad comes out!
