WandaVision Episode 7 paves way for the future of MCU’s multiverse. Many characters show their true form proving that many more are to come.
WandaVision Episode 7 packs a punch with not one but many revelations. It opens the gateway to the multiverse in the best way possible. Characters reveal their true nature, secrets unveil themselves and Wanda realizes that someone else is writing the script of her “sitcom” and not her.
Watch: WANDAVISION Episode 7 – “Agatha All Along”
Episode 7 of WandaVision breaks the Fourth Wall through its sit-com genre. All the pivotal characters interact directly with the audience, like Wanda, her kids Billy and Tommy, Agnes and Vision. Wanda’s world seems to be malfunctioning as she struggles to prevent everything (e.g. the TV, the fireplace, the plant) around from changing into their older versions (those in older sitcoms). This proves that things are slowly going out of her hand, or that someone else’s control is at play.
Meanwhile, Vision recovers and meets Darcy Lewis inside the Hex. She brings her consciousness back and finds out more about his life before Westview. And throughout the episode, we see him trying to come face to face with his past, and he finally decides to get back to his wife.
Monica for Wanda
We already know that Monica Rambeau is changing at a molecular level. And she finally gets her powers in this episode just as we had expected that she would eventually. In Marvel comics, she is also known as Photon and Spectrum. She has the ability to convert her body in any form of energy that falls within the electromagnetic spectrum. She can also travel through space in her energy form. Her other abilities include energy generation, absorption, and manipulation. Fun fact, the character debuted in Marvel comics in 1982’s The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16. Is this another sign of the MCU multiverse about to explode? We also know that we will see her next Captain Marvel 2, don’t we?
We recognize the same powers in her when she enters Westview and is able to see all the forms of energy in it. And clearly, it is Westview itself that is affecting all others this way and may give powers to others too. Mutants?! We can only hope.
Monica comes back to talk to Wanda and help her but Wanda is even more enraged now. And wants her to leave. Had it not been for Agnes, Wanda may have used her powers on Monica all over again. Moreover, Wanda too is taken aback when she sees that Monica has grown abilities. But with Monica having powers of her own now, who knows what may have happened?
Agnes for Wanda
The greatest reveal of WandaVision came in the form of Agnes. Wanda Agnes brings Wanda to her place after the not-too-sober meeting with Monica, Wanda starts looking for her kids when she discovers a cavern. Agnes comes out of nowhere and reveals herself to be none other than Agatha Harkness. Now, this was something that many people had speculated earlier. And what gave it away, if at all, was her pendant necklace. It resembled that same as worn by Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch, from Marvel Comics.
Coming to the character of Agatha Harkness. In the comics, she is a sinister heroine who is also the teacher of Wanda Maximoff. She is the mother of Nicolas Scratch who is a foe of the Fantastic Four. However, she was first introduced as the governess of Franklin Richards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. So, all this does set the stage for the arrival of the Fantastic Four into the MCU, Marvel’s first family of superheroes. Agatha also has a cat, her familiar, which can sense mystical beings’ presence. In European folklore, a familiar is an entity that assists witches in their magic.
In the show, Agatha (AKA Agnes) has a rabbit whose name is Señor Scratchy. Sorry, what was the name of her son in the comics, again? Yes, Nicholas Scratch. Confused? You should be, it’s magic. However, Agatha in the show appears to be more inclined towards her sinister character. She was the one to cast Pietro, maybe to keep a check on Wanda’s actions. She was the one “directing” the “sit-coms” all along, apparently. And she “killed Sparky too.”
Now, we know why she named herself AGNES. She is, after all, AGatha HarkNESS. Take a bow, MCU!
Signs of Mephisto in WandaVision Episode 7
We all know that Mephisto’s presence is something that has been talked about since the first two episodes of WandaVision. And in Episode 7 too, there are signs of him.
- In the comics, Mephisto absorbs Wanda’s sons Tommy and Billy, and Agatha wipes Wanda’s mind to remove the memories. The two kids later come back as Wiccan and Speed respectively as members of the Young Avengers.
- The fly Wanda sees in Agnes’ house. In the comics, Mephisto first appeared as a fly.
- The black book Wanda sees in Agnes’ (now Agatha) cavern seems to be made of Dark Matter; something that exists in the Doctor Strange universe. And we know that the events of WandaVision will be leading to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Hence, this theory does stand strong. The book may be used to summon Mephisto.
So, the question is, is Mephisto limited to the happenings of WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 that sets up The Eternals and Captain Marvel 2? Or, will his role be even bigger?
Multiverse Brewing in WandaVision
The commercial in WandaVision Episode 7 showcases Nexus pills. Pills that help “anchor you back to your reality…or the reality of your choice.” It is no less than a wink-wink to happenings in Westview and Wanda’s ability to create her own reality. We get surer of this when the commercial shows the side-effects to be feeling feelings, confronting the truth, seizing one’s destiny, and more depressed. And we know that Wanda is undergoing all this. However, there is much more to the pills than this.
In Marvel comics, Nexus beings are the keystones of the multiverse. They have the ability to alter the possibilities of the universe and the future too. One Nexus being exists on each parallel dimension and Wanda is the one for Earth-616, which has Spider-Man in it too. The Nexus beings are monitored closely by the Time Variance Authority. Yes, the same authority that we will see in the Loki series.
So, the Nexus will seemingly play a significant role in the upcoming MCU plots. Also, we may see Wanda in Spider-Man 3. We also know that Doctor Strange will appear in Spider-Man 3 before appearing in his own Doctor Strange 2 which will also have Wanda and will deal with the multiverse big time.
So, are you all set for MCU’s Multi-Big Bang?
