WandaVision Episode 4 clears some of our doubts about Westview anomaly. And everything is falling into place which Wanda doesn’t want.
WandaVision Episode 4 tracks the breadcrumbs that were spread for us throughout the first three episodes. We get a clear view of Westview inside out from SWORD’s perspective. New characters reveal themselves as the cloak of reality unveiling the secrets within.
Wanda, Vision and Thanos’ Snap
As we already know, the happenings of WandaVision are taking place after the incidents of Avengers: Endgame. And WandaVision episode 4 begins with half the population of the earth returning to life after Bruce Banner’s Hulk does the “snap” in Endgame. Basically, this episode shows what all is happening outside Wanda’s reality. So, we see Monica Rambeau who, apparently, had also dusted away from the snap return to life. We see how she got involved in SWORD’s workings, how she entered into Wanda’s reality to the moment where she was thrown out of it by Wanda herself (which was the last scene of episode 3).

No Westview outside WandaVision
After Monica is appointed for terrestrial missions, she undertakes to interrogate upon Westview. The anomaly begins after meeting with Agent James Woo of the FBI, she comes to know about the “missing town” of Westview from two local sheriffs who claim that there is no such place. Then how is it there? When she tries to send a drone, it disappears after going a certain distance. And when she tries to find out where it went, she discovers an energy field that sucks her in, the very next moment. This established her presence in Westview in the last three episodes of WandaVision before WandaVision episode 4.
An Old Familiar Face Arrives
Following this, we finally have Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) into the scene. We know her from the Thor films as a friend to Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). She, now an astrophysics expert, along with a chemical engineer, nuclear biologist and an AI expert, are taken to the SHIELD base right outside of Westview. As soon as she sets up her equipment, she is able to make receive unusual broadcast frequency coming out of the Westview energy field. Quite interestingly, the frequency is mixed with an enormous amount of CMBR (Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation), the kind of radiation left-over after the Big Bang. This is in direct relation to Wanda’s powers which she got from the Mind Stone that, along with the other Infinity Stones, existed since the Big Bang (and maybe even before that).
The Contact from Outside – SWORD
The plot in WandaVision episode 4 then shifts to the happenings of the first episode but this time from SWORD’s point of view. We see Wanda and Vision talking about their “anniversary”, remember? As soon as word gets out about this apparent “sit-com”, the experts at SWORD are told to identify each character in it. And they are identified one by one. However, as to why a sit-com, nobody knows the answer.
This is when Darcy decides to try and contact Wanda, via the same frequency she received, using a transmitter. Next, we see Agent Woo trying to contact Wanda. Now, from WandaVision episode 4, let’s rewind to episode 2 of WandaVision.
Watch: Westview | Marvel Studios’ WandaVision | Disney+
Remember when Wanda was at the meeting for the magic show at a swim club? And we saw someone trying to talk to her via the radio? “Wanda, who’s doing this to you, Wanda?” Yes, the person talking to her was Agent Woo. Next, we see a guy in a hazmat suit crawling down a manhole, entering the energy field and into Westview.
Now, stop reading this and go and watch the last scene of the 2nd episode. The guy that comes out of the manhole and turns to Wanda and Vision (who have just rushed out of their home to check for the source of the sound)? Voila, this is that very man. But we don’t know what happens to him after this as the scene shifts to Darcy and Agent Woo watching the 3rd episode of the sit-com just like we did. Was he also turned into one of the townsfolk of Westview? Or did Wanda kill him?
WandaVision Comes From Past to Present
To continue with WandaVision episode 4, concurring to EP 03 we now have Wanda about to give birth to the twins with Monica Rambeau (as Geraldine) aiding the labour. And immediately after Wanda mentions that she too had a twin, Monica drops a reference to our reality by mentioning Ultron and that he was the one who killed her brother Pietro. All this is being monitored by Darcy and Woo, who are also “invested” in the happenings. Wanda realizes that Monica is from the outside world and wants her to leave and throws her out of Westview.
Neither Darcy nor Woo have any idea as to what happened when a security alarm goes off due to a breach in the energy field. This scene falls towards the end of the 3rd episode, right before Wanda tells Vision that Geraldine had to rush home. The breach was due to Monica Rambeau whom Wanda threw out of her reality. At this point, episode 3 and episode 4 of WandaVision come together and meet at the same moment in time.
Is Vision Alive or Dead?
Next, what we see in WandaVision episode 4 is for a moment horrifying. As Wanda turns to Vision, we do not see the regular Vision’s face but that of a dead Vision with his head cracked open and stone removed. This may be because Wanda is unable to control her reality and truth is slowly gaining upon her. Since she was so much enraged due to Monica’s interference with her life, she lost control of what she wanted to see. And we all know that Vision is but dead. What she saw was the same face that we saw after Thanos ripped out the stone from Vision’s head.
Westview Is All Wanda or Is It?
At the end of WandaVision episode 4, Wanda herself gives proof that she is the one controlling everything in Westview when she tells him that she has “everything under control.” And that they cannot go anywhere else because Westview (and its anomalies) is their home now. This proves that Wanda does not want to come out of her reality and face the horrors of her past. On the other hand, we have Monica who also realizes that everything happening inside Westview is Wanda’s doing. For a split second, we also see a doubtful Vision. But how is that possible? He is, after all, an outcome of Wanda’s mind. He doesn’t have a mind of his own. Or does he? If yes, then how? How is he not dead? More is in store in Episode 5 of WandaVision. And the revelations are shocking.
