The Fox X-Men universe is starting to show its presence in the MCU while Quicksilver made a quick appearance, Wanda even pulled a major Magneto move
Wow! There’s a lot in WandaVision that we did not see coming! The show gives a whole new look at the Westview anomaly. Things turned grave as Monica reveals that Wanda is responsible for everything happening in Westview. Vision realizes something is wrong and things get more complicated. Also, there is a blast from the past.
Consciousness Coming Back to Westview
At the beginning of WandaVision Episode 5, we see Agnes acting “out-of-character”. This was when Agnes arrived at the residence and found out about the babies. For a moment, we see her getting conscious of the fact that she was indeed acting in a sit-com. “Should we just take it from the top?”, she says. This is as if she wants to know if they should re-enact the scene. Weird. And the very next moment, everything is back the way it was. And Vision notices this but Wanda, apparently, pays no heed and brushes it off.
Next, towards the middle of episode 5 of WandaVision, we see Vision at his office. And Norm receives the first e-mail on this new computer of his. The message seems to be from SWORD. It talks about Darcy Lewis’s catching the broadcast signal and the Big-Bang radiation that the energy field forming the perimeter is emitting. SWORD seems to ask for advice from someone, we don’t know who. Vision is again shaken up by this and ‘unearths the suppressed personality’ of Norm. This sets Norm free from Wanda’s grip. And he immediately tells Vision what he is going through, just pain. And that “she” is inside his head. Vision does not understand but can only doubt that it is Wanda. Before it got too much, Vision brings back Norm to his sit-com state.
Watch: WANDAVISION EPISODE 5 BREAKDOWN! Easter Eggs & Details
Finally, at the end of episode 5 of WandaVision, we see Vision telling Wanda about Norm and that he believes that Wanda is controlling him and, maybe, others in Westview too. The scene is very powerful as it shows us two lovers face to face with each other out of anger. The disagreement was never more clear than at this moment. Vision wants to know what there is outside Westview, more about himself but Wanda doesn’t want that. And we all know why. She wants to keep everything and everyone, including Vision, to herself.
WandaVision and Their Kids
In episode 5 of WandaVision, Wanda and Vision’s two sons grow up, namely Tommy and Billy. And they grow a lot faster than usual kids. While searching for their dog, Sparky, they run into the mail-man who tells them that their Mom cannot let the dog “get far.” But the question is how did he know this? (about Wanda’s powers?) There’s no other way he could have said that. We also find another unusual thing when Wanda conjures a belt for the dog in front of Agnes. Vision was shocked but according to Wanda, Agnes didn’t see it. She also told Vision that she is tired of hiding and he doesn’t have to hide his identity either. This might mean that she has reconfigured all the minds in Westview to take her powers as something totally normal.
Coming back to the dog incident, they find Sparky dead and Agnes holding wrapped. That’s when the kids tell Wanda to bring him back to life. At this point, we see Wanda contradict herself very clearly when she tells them that death cannot be reversed. As for the contradiction, we are coming to that in a few.
Monica, Darcy and Jimmy Woo Decipher the Hex
Meanwhile Monica Rambeau regains consciousness in the SWORD base. She then discovers that Wanda had stormed into a hidden SWORD facility 9 days ago and stole Vision’s body from there. And that she resurrected him. So this clears all the doubts we had about Vision and how he is alive. Neither is all happening in Wanda’s mind nor is Vision the old version. He is new and he does not know anything before Westview as he yells at Wanda towards the end of episode 5.
There is another instance Monica realizes that Wanda is rewriting reality. This is when she shoots the dress that she wore when in Westview and found out that it still had the Kevlar quality, the same as the bulletproof vest she was wearing when the energy field sucked her in. Wanda is changing everything to make them look different, belonging to a different time. Maybe, to stay away from her present life and its horrors.
Wanda’s Magneto Move
Keeping this in mind, Monica decides to send a drone that resembles the 80s, the time when the then-present sit-com was being broadcasted. But Wanda finds out, brings it down, and comes out of Westview to return it to SWORD with her “only warning.” This might be one of the most impactful moments in the entire series by far. After confronting SWORD director Tyler Hayward [Josh Stamberg] and not accepting any help that Monica wanted to offer her. Wanda gestures to turn all the guns on Hayward and walks back into Westview.
But that hand gesture coupled with the power move is strikingly similar to Michael Fassbender’s ‘Magneto’ play in Fox’s X-Men franchise. Elizabeth Olsen pulled is so savagely that both Fassbender and Sir Ian McKellen would be proud. However, as fans have been speculating all along Wanda and Pietro can be Magneto’s children in the MCU. This hand gesture has only fueled the fire. Making us wonder can Wanda actually recast Magneto this time? Can we see the big cameo from Fassbender or McKellen just like Evan Peter’s? Well, that time will tell.
Lagos, Sokovia and a Mess You Didn’t Mean to Create
Both these places play significant roles in episode 5 of WandaVision. Or should we say, in Wanda’s sit-com? Just like Strucker and Hydra crept up in commercials in the previous episodes, Lagos found its way in this one. Here, it is the most absorbent paper towel “for when you make a mess you didn’t mean to.” We all know what it signifies. Lagos is where Wanda lost control of her powers which led to the death of many people and eventually to the Sokovia Accords formation and Civil War. The commercial seems to be some kind of apology on her part. There is a line in the commercial that says that husbands can use it too. This sort of signifies that Vision is also cleared of his past which we know is true.
Next up, we have the perfect ending to the episode 5 of WandaVision with Wanda’s brother Pietro (Evan Peters from X-Men moves [MCU multiverse is it?]) turning up at their door. Hello Sokovia. But the question is did she really recast her brother? If she did, then why was she surprised to see him? And if she didn’t, how did Pietro find her? Is she really in control of it all or not? Lots of questions to which we will try to find the answers from the upcoming episode 6 of WandaVision.
