Robert Pattinson’s The Batman can have a potential crossover with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Read on for the easter eggs and other clues
So we know that 2019 Joker is not a DCEU movie and it is independent of any work that Warner Brothers (parent company for DC universe) might produce including Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. But after Joker’s massive success, critics and the Academy’s acknowledgment – Fans are lusting over the ultimate fantasy Robert Pattinson’s Batman crossover with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
There are couple of clues in 2019 Joker’s plotline that points towards a possible crossover for the ultimate showdown between the Caped Crusader and the Clown Prince of Crime.

The Arkham Origins
Joker’s origin story has always been a mystery. In the comics, the closest it comes to is in Arkham Origins and Arkham City where he confesses to Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Professor Hugo Strange on respective occasions that once upon a time he had been a failed standup comedian who worked night shifts at Ace Chemicals.
Interestingly, Tod Philip’s Joker starts and ends in an asylum that looks very close to Arkham. In Philip’s version, Arthur Fleck too is a failed comedian who pulls a rug on everyone and by the end, it all turns out to be a figment of his imagination.
However, the ending of the movie sparked a debate among moviegoers and fans alike as to what really happened. Todd Philips told The LA Times, “There’s a lot of ways you could look at this movie. You could look at it and go, ‘This is just one of his multiple-choice stories. None of it happened.’ I don’t want to say what it is. But a lot of people I’ve shown it to have said, ‘Oh, I get it — he’s just made up a story. The whole movie is the joke. It’s this thing this guy in Arkham Asylum concocted. He might not even be the Joker.’”
In the camera test shot tweeted by The Batman’s director, Matt Reeves one can find the inspiration from Arkham Asylum costumes. Also, the listing of the star cast on the IMDB page of The Batman movie points at multiple villains plot which is already making fans go crazy with speculations of Arkham Asylum plotline.

The Batman Slips
Robert Pattinson in his maiden interview with Variety magazine after he was anointed as the Dark Knight, had a slip of tongue. He gave a potential spoiler and retracted it, writer Ramin Sathoode notes him saying,
At one point in our conversation, he offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in “Joker” (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it. “Oh s—,” he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers. “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”
Since fans have speculated that this can be the ultimate showdown between Batman and Joker. In another interview with Variety magazine director, Reeves has clearly denied any crossover. And why not?
While fans anticipate some more we’d have to wait for June 2021 to see the real deal.
