The Flash 2022 will open the door to DC’s Multiverse inviting many expected and unexpected faces including Superman’s
DC FanDome made the concept of its Multiverse pretty clear to the audience. As Flash is a quantum character who can interact with space and time his story will propel many timelines. The comic book Flashpoint event is at the heart of Ezra Miller’s 2022 release.
While various iterations of Bat-men are already confirmed for this movie audience are in for another treat. By far Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both have been confirmed for The Flash movie. Both the actors will reprise their own iterations of Bruce Wayne alongside Miller who is way more useful than what Joss Whedon’s Justice League established.
The Flash Movie’s Time Travel
Director Zack Snyder’s Justice League trailer gives us a good look at some of the most important Flash scenes that were left out on Whedon’s editing floor. His powers look more refined on-screen as well. During The Flash panel, the director and the cast of the movie shed some light on the concept of DC Multiverse and how it works. Essentially, all the iterations of the characters we have seen exist on different Earths in DC Multiverse.

So if you ask can Christian Bale be back the answer would be no as Batman is dead in that timeline. The best DC Multiverse can do is to acknowledge it. But Gran Gustin’s Barry Allen can surely crossover even Dean Cain and Linda Carter. Nonetheless, we understand there is an opportunity for several characters – from the entire DC universe – to make a cameo in The Flash. However, some emerging names are more unusual than others.
In a new scoop by Fandomwire, they have revealed that WB is knocking on the old doors for a cameo in The Flash movie and one of them is actor Nicolas Cage. For the uninitiated, Nicholas Cage was engaged for a Superman movie helmed by Tim Burton. However, the movie never saw the light of the day. But there’s more to it, the scoop further says,
To make this cameo even cooler, Cage wouldn’t just be a cameo from another world, but instead would portray the Superman in Michael Keaton’s world where a bulk of the film will apparently take place. Talk about mind-blowing!
Nicolas Cage As Superman
Cage is a big-time comic book fan! Interestingly, his stage name is a tribute to Marvel character Luke Cage. The actor loves to collect comic books and even played Marvel’s spirit of vengeance, the Ghost Rider, at one point in his career. He also named his second son Kal-El.
Watch: Tim Burton Reveals Why His Superman Movie Never Got Made (1999)
Back in the day, Cage did a screen test for Tim Burton’s iteration of the Man of Steel in full costume. The movie ironically titled, Superman Lives, was based on the Death of Superman storyline. Apart from Cage as Superman, the movie had cast Christopher Walken as Brainiac. Further, actor Sandra Bullock and Courtney Cox were on the final lines to play Lois Lane. Actor Kevin Spacey would have played Lex Luthor and Chris Rock, Jimmy Olsen. However, the losses and sting from George Clooney’s Batman & Robin were fresh and WB could not afford any more flops or financial risks. Hence, the movie was cancelled three weeks before it was scheduled to start filming.
While Michael Keaton is in a prominent role in The Flash 2022, it makes sense if Nicolas Cage takes up the mantle of Superman from that timeline. It’ll be a retcon we need and he deserves!
