After announcing the release of her new album, Taylor Swift released a lyric video for her new single.
Taylor Swift is the second single from her forthcoming seventh album. She revealed that her album, Lover will be released on August 23rd.
“You Need to Calm Down” takes aim at haters, especially the anti-gay Twitter ones and the legislative ones. “Why are you mad/ when you could be GLAAD?”
The song is in reference to the Trump administration’s treatment of LGBTQ people.
She even teased what the new record will sound like. “This album in tone is very romantic,” Taylor promised of the forthcoming record. “Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something. The idea of something being romantic…it doesn’t have to be a happy song.”
The song’s titular phrase was first previewed in the music video for “Me!” when Brendon Urie utters it in French during the opening scene.
