Black Widow is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fans can be absolutely sure of this: Taskmaster is coming. We are yet to see Taskmasters role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet and many may not even know about him. Here’s everything you need to know about this big baddie.
In Marvel Comics:
The character first comes into the Marvel Universe with The Avengers #195 (May 1980) and makes his full debut in the next edition. Taskmaster is a mysterious figure and stays to be that way. Sometimes he is a supervillain and a sleeper agent/anti-hero at another. There are a few things that are constant about him, his super abilities being the foremost.
In his origins, Taskmaster learns that he has the ability to mimic any muscle movement that he witnesses. He uses this ability with immediate effect and goes on to learn how to whip rope by watching a cowboy on TV doing it. Doctors name his ability as ‘Photographic Muscle Memory’ or ‘Photographic Muscle Reflexes’.
This doesn’t sound nearly as cool as it looks. While Taskmaster isn’t on the big screen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, he is seen in various animated adaptations. From the Disney XD The Ultimate Avengers series to a few others that showcase his abilities to copy and mimic anybody at any time.
Taskmaster the Black Widow Villain?
The rumours of Taskmaster coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Black Widow is something all fans look forward to. This character has not been given the same attention or the same amount of value in the MCU just yet. Maybe we get to see the dots of his actions connect to the consequences that follow for Black Widow. But the bigger picture remains to be that we are going to see Taskmaster train other Mercenaries as and when it is a well-paying business.
Taskmaster has no ideology but that of his employer. He is an ex-SHIELD agent as well. This villain has the brawn and the brains; he has even impersonated superheroes during his tenure as a villain. The identity of this man is a fluid one though, he is also an antihero and even becomes part of the Secret Avengers.
Taskmaster in Black Widow could imply a significant role for him as MCU moves forward into phase IV. Reception of the villain is sure to be something to look forward to.
Taskmaster’s Future in MCU
This supervillain has a vast array of tricks and attack styles up his sleeve. The fact that he has defeated Iron Man and Captain America in one on one combat. Taskmaster is also the central character of the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers at E3 2019. Taskmaster is an enigma; has no motives other than money. The eccentric character sells his sheer skills to the highest bidder, whoever that may be.
Taskmaster’s future in the MCU remains uncertain because of the simple fact that Black Widow movie is going to be a prequel. After the events of Avengers Endgame, Natasha is dead.
She doesn’t even get a funeral or anything, though we do see Hulk and Hawkeye really sad about it.
Taskmaster may not be a one time villain though which means he is definitely going to play a role in phase IV of MCU. He could be messiah leading up to the next war that our heroes take on. Who knows? Taskmaster.
Black widow releases 1 May 2020.
