Daredevil To Make His First Appearance In Third Spiderman Sequel
As Marvel’s Phase 4 gradually expands the multiverse idea, tons of rumours and leaks concerning upcoming movies and projects are making fans frantic with excitement. Although WandaVision and FTWS continued the story arcs of some characters in the MCU and introduced some others, – like a new Captain America and a new Vision – they didn’t exactly ignite any major conflict or catastrophe. However, the Loki series wasted no time in delving into multiverse theories and Tom Holland’s third spiderman movie, Spiderman: No Way Home will be our first taste of the practical implications of all that meddling.
Since the end of Spiderman: Far From Home left Peter with an exposed identity and a court case, it’s very clear that Spidey has his hands full and needs all the help he can possibly get to sort things out. Of course, in the absence of Iron Man, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange seems like the best replacement for a hero-guardian of some sort for Peter. The trio went on a Thanos hunting escapade at the beginning of Infinity War where they eventually ended up linking with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and it has been confirmed that Doctor Strange will feature in Spiderman 3.
However, whether the Sorcerer Supreme will have a lot to do or just appear briefly is unknown. But either way, this means that the plot of Spiderman: No Way Home will likely lead directly into the Multiverse of Madness. The Dr Strange sequel is set to premiere after Tom Holland’s third Spiderman movie so it makes sense – in classic Marvel style – for Strange to appear in a post-credits scene. After Endgame’s haphazard time heist and more recently, Lady Loki’s recent actions at the “end of time”, Dr Strange will be recruiting good hands to help him control the fallout.
Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff has also been rumoured to be making an appearance in the third Spiderman sequel. But it isn’t clear what her role could possibly be. We saw her last at the end of WandaVision, studying what seemed to be some very strong form of magic as she searched for her family. And she is set to continue that search in the Multiverse of Madness. However, rumours of her appearance in Spiderman 3 have made it even more exciting and difficult for fans to predict the movie plot.
With all the villains from the past Spiderman movies returning in Spiderman 3: Far From Home, it won’t be easy to cramp a Wanda-agenda into that particular chaos. However, she could be snooping around in a post-credit scene searching for clues to solve her own problems. Except you’re an extreme thinker, – or extreme universe – and propose that she can somehow use her powers to cloak Peter’s identity so people don’t recognize him even when they look at him.
But while all that is unlikely, a more likely ally rumoured to be appearing in Spiderman3: No Way Home patrols the same city as Spiderman. While Spiderman bases out of Queens in New York City, Matt Murdock plays lawyer by day and Vigilante at night in Hell’s Kitchen. In the comics, Spiderman and Daredevil have a very strong friendship and it would make sense that they would introduce him at this point. However, with a plot that is confirmed to contain a ton of characters as well as lean into a chaotic Multiverse, perhaps they might end up featuring only the legal side of Matt Murdock.
Charlie Cox will be reprising his role as Hell’s kitchen enforcer, although there hasn’t been any news of a Daredevil costume. This could mean that he might only be featuring as legal council to Peter Parker. Cox played the lead character for Marvel’s Daredevil which aired on Netflix for three seasons. His exceptional performance and strong connection to Spiderman meant it was just a matter of time before he crossed over to the bigger MCU stage.
With Marvel’s inclination to change and alter certain angles of what they lift from the comics, Cox could be given a different backstory to enable him to fit into the timeline. But it is almost certain that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will make his first appearance in Spiderman 3: No Way Home.
Spiderman 3 is currently slated for a December 12, 2021 release date.
