The rumour has it that Alfred Molina is on sets of Spider-Man 3 as DOCTOR OCTOPUS
After Jamie Foxx reprised his Electro for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next Spider-Man iteration starring Tom Holland the rumours are rife. Soon after Foxx’s announcement, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange’s addition was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Nonetheless, fans are convinced all these additions are pointing towards the larger Multiverse that was announced by Marvel Head Kevin Feige during Comic-Con 2019. Cumberbatch’s addition makes sense as a mentor to Holland’s Peter Parker as Doctor Strange’s sequel title literally has ‘Multiverse’ in it. Now another interesting addition to the cast has surfaced and is none other than Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.
Alfred Molina As Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 3
The scoop is reported by Geeks World Wide which reads,
A source within Disney/Marvel has informed GWW that Alfred Molina will be returning to the Spider-Man franchise to reprise his role as the famed Doctor Octopus.
Not only Molina is reprising his role but he has already shot some scenes since the Spider-Man 3 shoot began. The report further says, “…but we were informed Molina arrived on set a bit ago to work on some stunt choreography and has started filming his scenes in the past couple weeks.” Talking about the plot points the portal informed they are ‘scares’ and everything is tightly under wraps.
Watch: BREAKING! ALFRED MOLINA DOCTOR OCTOPUS JOINS SPIDER-MAN 3
Alfred Molina played the fame spidey nemesis Dr Octopus in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2. The Maguire starrer was directed by Sam Raimi who is currently helming MCU’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. This makes the bit of information more exciting as Raimi’s involvement in the MCU raises the stakes for the character’s Marvel future. What if… Tobey Maguire is really MCU’s Uncle Ben?
It is unclear whether Moulin’s Dr Octopus will be the same iteration from Raimi’s Sony Spider-Man universe or will go its own changes. Foxx had accidentally revealed on Instagram that his MCU Electro won’t be blue like its Sony counterpart. Nonetheless, it’s safe to assume that the CGI speciality that Marvel Studios has built over the years – Molina might get CGI’d tentacles in Spider-Man 3.
Multiverse Madness In Spider-Man 3
If indeed the scoop stands correct this only further affirms that Multiverse is at the core of Spider-Man’s third MCU outing. As we know from Far From Home, Peter’s real identity has been revealed by J Jonah Jameson and he is now on a run. A recent, set photo revealed Zendaya and Holland shooting a scene similar to the end of Far From Home. So it’s safe to say that the flick will pick up from where it left off.
With Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Foxx’x Electro in the fold and addition of Molina’s Dr Octopus in the mix – Sinister Six looks like the direction MCU is going in with Spider-Man. Imagine, a Sinister Six movie but with each nemesis coming in from a Sony or Marvel alternate universe looks like the direction MCU is going in with Spider-Man. Imagine, a Sinister Six movie but with each nemesis coming in from a Sony or Marvel alternate universe!
The untitled Spider-Man 3 is set to release on December 17, 2021, and is directed by Jon Watts. The movie casts Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch in lead roles.
