Shuri is the only Avenger who knows most about the Infinity Stones
Avengers: Endgame didn’t just close the curtains on Thanos and his crusade to save the world, it also signalled the end of the tug-of-war for the Infinity Stones. However, unlike Thanos, the Infinity Stones would still heavily influence a large chunk of the events set to occur in Phase 4 of Marvel’s cinematic universe. We already know that the Infinity Stones are strong enough to completely alter the composition of any element, giving it powers that are synonymous to the stone’s abilities.
Infinity Stones Created Some Avengers
The Infinity Stones are known to give off energy that matches their monochromatic nature. The Time Stone is green and manifests as a green circular rune around Dr. Stranger’s hands while the Mind Stone on Vision’s forehead enables him to shoot yellow energy beams. The stones have also created some of the MCU’s powered individuals – albeit by accident. Captain Marvel got her powers from the Space Stone/Light Speed explosion while the Maximoff twins got their powers from the Mind Stone chaos in Sokovia. But perhaps the most significant effect of the stones didn’t even take place on earth.
After the Power Stone was discovered by Star-Lord in Guardians of The Galaxy, it was revealed that Eson the Searcher, a powerful celestial, had used the power stone to completely destroy a planet. A theory suggests during the planet’s disintegration, a huge chunk of its debris – highly saturated with the energy from the Power Stone – got hurled towards Earth. It eventually landed in a kingdom in East Africa, permeating its soil and creating the strongest metal on Earth, Vibranium.

Wakandan Princess’ Experiments With The Stones
According to the MCU, Vibranium is so strong and advanced; it enabled Wakanda to rapidly develop technological gadgets and medical processes that are light-years from the rest of the world. However in Wakanda Files Shuri records, “Very little is known about the Power Stone. The possessor of this stone can wield immense power, physical enhancement, and the ability to fire energy from one’s fingers. It is as if this stone is a concentrated dose of the Erskine serum.”
Other than Tony Stark, T’Challa sister Shuri is the only other tech genius in the MCU who loves to create and experiment. And with Vibranium endlessly at her disposal, she has been able to invent a number of cool gadgets. She invented Black Panther’s energy-absorbing suit, created a new arm for Bucky and was able to successfully repair Agent Ross’ spine. Shuri’s skill and intelligence make her a very important part of the MCU’s future, especially since Tony stark is dead in the current timeline.

Although Shuri and Tony Stark didn’t have a lot of brainstorming sessions together, there is hardly any doubt that the Wakandan princess would be able to follow in the tech billionaire’s footsteps. Her dexterity in manipulating Vibranium, which was created by the Power Stone, proves her ability to handle any of the other stones. Now while Shuri may not have access to the other stones, the Mind stone on Vision’s forehead is one stone she briefly had the opportunity to study.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Shuri tried to separate the stone from Vision in a bid to stop Thanos from getting his hands on it. Even though she failed to complete the separation, could she have somehow stored or saved the stone’s composition to study later? That might be a theory the MCU could explore sometime in the future.
In Wakanda Files Shuri records, “Given to Loki by Thanos, this stone was the core of Loki’s scepter. It was later placed in Vision, allowing him consciousness. The Mind Stone is at the very core of Vision’s powers. It “spoke” to him on occasion. As best I can figure, the stone is the very embodiment of intellect and information.”
Does the Knowledge of Infinity Stones make Shuri Worthy of Black Panther Mantle?
Death of Chadwick Boseman earlier this year has sparked discussions of who the next person to fill the Panther suit should be. Different discussions and opinions have been tabled and one major opinion among a lot of Marvel fans is that Shuri should become the next Black Panther. While it’s difficult to see the young genius adding prowess in physical combat to her already outstanding intellectual abilities like Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, it won’t entirely be out of place.
In the comics, Shuri takes on the mantle of Black Panther after T’Challa is placed in a coma by Doctor Doom. In the 2009 Black Panther comic storyline, Doctor Doom and Namor The Submariner make T’Challa an offer which he refuses. This causes Doom to attack the Wakandan leader and placing him in a coma. Shuri is forced to step into the Black Panther role and although she fails the Black Panther test in the beginning, she goes on to eventually prove herself as a worthy Black Panther.
With fans insisting that Marvel preserve Boseman’s legacy by replacing Black Panther rather than recasting T’Challa, Shuri could become the next Black Panther, if the studio decides to lean towards the comics for inspiration.
An important role such as that would give her access to a lot of material to work with such as Tony Stark’s projects and ultimately, the Avengers’ inner circle. If the Infinity Stones are going to be explored any further in the MCU, you can be rest assured that Shuri would be a part of it. But would she remain in the science laboratory or finally get her chance in the big leagues? We’ll have to wait and see.
Marvel Phase 4 kicks off on January 15, 2021 with the WandaVision miniseries on Disney+. This would be followed The Falcon and The Winter Solider and then Natasha Romanoff’s solo Black Widow movie.
