While fans are in a frenzy over the Marvel phase 4 movie, did you know that Scarlett Johansson never wanted to do a solo movie of Black Widow?
Scarlett Johansson never wanted to do a stand-alone Black Widow movie. She had her reasons and these reasons might move her to move away from the character that she has built over the years. Yes, we are all desperately waiting for the Black Widow movie whose release date has been pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic. And yes, Scarlett Johansson pulls off Natasha Romanoff’s character with poise. But what is the reason that is pulling her away from the sassy Marvel Avenger, Black Widow?
- Black Widow release date delayed due to coronavirus
- Scarlett Johansson did not want a stand-alone Black Widow movie
- Johansson might quit MCU
Marvel fans were getting ready to see Black Widow for one last time on 1 May 2020. But sadly, as an effect of the coronavirus pandemic, the Black Widow release date has been postponed indefinitely. Whether it will be Scarlett’s last movie with MCU is still debatable for two reasons—
- Kevin Feige might be making an all-female superhero movie.
- A theory claims Natasha Romanoff is alive and it was Yelena Belova who sacrificed herself for the Soul Stone.
But it is unsure if the actress will be willing to take up these projects.
Scarlett Johansson never wanted a solo Black Widow movie
The actress explained to EW that she wants to feel challenged and not do the same thing that she has already done. (We all know that she has played Black Widow for quite some time now.)
In her own words, “I was like, I think I’m good. If we (were) going to do this, it had to be creatively fulfilling. I’ve been working for such a long time, and I have to feel like I’m challenged. I don’t want to do the same thing that I’d already done before.”
Scarlett Johansson has been associated with Black Widow ever since she first debuted in MCU in 2008’s Iron Man 2. It makes sense that she would not want to come back to a role which she knows all the aspects of. Scarlett Johansson also wants to grow as an actor and meet new challenges on the way. And that is why she was not in agreement with a solo Black Widow movie. She wanted something “creatively fulfilling”.
(Since the movie is coming and Scarlett Johansson is in it, we can be sure that it will be a creatively fulfilling experience).
But the same cannot be said about her future projects with MCU. So it is possible that she might call it quits on MCU to meet more challenges that help her grow as an actor. (Well, we still believe that she is a good one).
